Back in June 2008 there was a story about Fansproject making a handgun that looked like Classic Megatron for Transformers to hold:

Sadly it never happened, I think speculation was that it was a little too dangerous on the legal front with Hasbro to make a tiny replica of Megatron.

So I just saw this on Shapeways:

    Megatron by scrypt on Shapeways

It's the Classic Megatron gun done with a 5mm handle.

The same guy also did a smaller one scaled down to be held by GI Joe figures.

You have to paint them, but it's probably the closest thing we will see to this canceled FansProject toy.

Nice! I was always sad that little FP version never saw release. I might have to get a couple of these.

I notice that same rough finish on all shapeway products I see which is why I have never had interest in anything shapeways.

That Classics Megs gun is a funky idea though.

It depends on what kind of material you pay for. Frosted ultra detail is the best combo of good detail and price.

But for the Megs gun, it's a fun idea but it screams more Nerf to me than classics Megs.

Same here, I don't know why they can't come up with a more smooth finish with the same price range, I love to get all the articulated hands and all that stuff but their products just doesn't seem appealing to me. Oh well.. just saying :)

The rough finish is due to the way that rapid-prototyping works.

It's not intended to be used as a finished product.
