    Hello everyone,
Im Kalash. I come from the Hisstank forums. Im a life long GI JOE fan/collector but Im looking to purchase a few TF figures. I never got into the various reiterations of the TF cartoon, but I've been familiar with it over the years, primarily because GI JOE and Transformers were always pretty closely associated.

So I wanted to ask, what are some good figures to start with. I want something classic, and to give you an idea of what I like to collect, if you have any knowledge of Joes' at all, I primarily collect only GI JOEs, no Cobras, and I try to limit my figures to the classic ones only-no new spawn offs.

What would be some classic figures to start with. Prime? Starscream?

Could I have some suggestions? Pictures always help too.

    Thanks for reading!

    -Kalash

Well the best line right now is probably the Universe (or "Classics") series; it has the highest-quality molds based on beloved characters.

Some of the best molds in that line are-

*Starscream; or whichever of the Jet molds you prefer-they've used the design a lot.

*Optimus Prime; released during the early days of the line so your best bet for finding hims is probably an online retailer.

*Megatron; a good counterpart to Optimus Prime. I'd actually recommend searching for the Japanese (or "Henkei") version of this mold since the American one looks like a Nerf gun.

*Sideswipe and/or Sunstreaker. The same mold used twice; pick whichever one you like best.

    *Prowl and/or Silverstreak. See above.

    *Onslaught. Deliciously evil-looking toy.

These are just my recommendations. I'm sure other opinions may differ.

Is there any specific place you guys get your figure from for relatively good price?

Also I wanted to ask, are there any Transformers that are proportionately sized to GI JOEs?

Hahah I've seen this before, it shall go on my list.

@Paladin: Is the American Megatron really that bad?

Not really; no matter which version you pick its still a great toy. Some people just prefer the more "realistic" color pattern.

And in fact right now the Henkei Megatron might be easier to obtain since it was more recently released.

Not bad. The mold and coloring just resemble a Nerf gun. The Japanese version has more classic G1 color scheme.

I suppose this is what I am looking for then.

Can anyone link me to a Masterpiece Optimus Prime? I take it they are expensive.

The prices aren't too bad. BBTS TFSource

The second link is more expensive because it comes with the trailer. The original release did not include it.

Hasbro's Megatron has funky colours with it.The Japanese Megatron is more show accurate, but it is more expensive.

Start off with Astrotrain,Mirage,Hot Rod or Starscream.Otherwise you can get Megatron.Universe Galvatron is release recently, but I only recommend him if you want him to accompany Megatron because he is not really cool.If you like Ultra Magnus, get him. There's also an upgrade kit on BBTS.

If you would like to get the current Classics line (Hasbro version), you can check the Big 3. If you are after the Henkei versions, I would recommend ordering from BBTS, TFSource, or a local collectibles store that might carry them. The main difference between the two versions is that the Japanese love to put chrome on their figures.

But I do recommend searching the resources and picking the ones that you would like to start with. If you are not familiar with BBTS, they tend to be a bit pricey but their customer service has been excellent.

Masterpiece Optimus Prime (and, in fact, the Masterpiece line in general) has a higher price point because it is much larger and with much greater detailing than "average" Transformers.

Yep, that's the one. It's a really well-built figure and it's pretty large. It just feels like an expensive toy. If it's a bit too much at the moment, you can opt for Classics Prime which is just as much fun to play with.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

@Paladin: I can dig that. Quality for the price is always good.

@Pikatron: How much would that Prime run me? How is he in comparison to the Masterpiece one? Meaning by size and poseability?

@Cascadia: I've done business with BBTS before. Im familiar with their price patterns and such.

@Buzzer-Bot: Which Starscream is a good choice to start with? Would he match up well with Masterpiece Optimus Prime?

Classics Prime runs about $30-50, Masterpiece is probably $75 at minimum.

The Classics/Universe Starscream is a great mold but there is also a Masterpiece Starscream that's closer to scale with the Masterpiece Optimus Prime.

It has great posability and stands about 6.5" tall. As someone else mentioned, it'll run you around $30-$50.

If you enjoy spending loads of cash get Masterpiece Starscream,he will be good next to Masterpiece Prime.

The Henkei/Universe 2.0 mold is great.Unfortunately,it's too short to match up next to Masterpiece Prime.
