Firstly, thank you for reading. I am humbly asking the many fine artists here, and elsewhere to bless my kitbash with their fine talents.

    Hexwing Art Competition (Cash Prizes)

This is an open competition for any artists that wish to compete for drawing the best Hexwing full color drawing. This competition is being posted on Allspark, Devil's Due Publishing, IDW Publishing, TFans, TFW2005, and Transtopia art boards (if moderators are willing). It will be judged on quality, and creativity. Of the artists that choose to do this, I would ask them to make Hexwing “theirs.” To view her, and interpret her in their own styles.

    Prizes:

    1st Place - $70 US

    2nd Place - $60 US

    3rd Place - $50 US

The three winners will receive their prizes via Paypal, or personal check (which ever is preferred). By entering this competition the 3 winners agree to submit their final artwork at size 8x11 average at 330dpi. in PSD Photoshop file format, and high resolution JPGs of both lineart and colored artwork. This artwork will be accepted by me, SkyQuake, after the prizes have been awarded, and just payment given.

    How to enter:

Post your art piece in this thread at half the size up to full size (enough to see the kind of detail that you put into it). The competition will end on June 01, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. (U.S. Central time). No submissions will be accepted after this. It will then be judged for an undisclosed amount of time (depending on judges schedules).

Good luck to everyone who competes, and may the best man, woman, or mech win! And as I said, make Hexwing yours.

Hexwing's pictures can be found here.

Additionally, to add some background to Hexwing, here is her bio:

    Hexwing

    Allegience: Unknown

    Function: Supreme Decepticon Commander

"They will love me in despair, and choke on the darkness that I nurse them with."

Description as recorded by Feedback (Decepticon jaguar of the Cobalt Sentry team).

We tried to stop her, but we were too late. Hexwing has defeated Galvatron, and so ascends to lead the Decepticons. Where she has gotten her power is (quietly) guessed at, but I believe I record the truth herein. Hexwing is an interdemensional being like that of Unicron, or Primus. My evidence comes from interrogating one of her spies (who will not be reporting back to her). Apparently, she was much bigger at one time, but suffered some sort of calamity upon entering our universe which destroyed her original body. From what I can gather, her mind fractured shortly afterward into nine distinct beings, all carrying a bit of Hexwing within them. Viral (the headmaster) appears to hold the bulk of Hexwing’s core consciouness. Like her 8 sisters, Viral seems to have a growing mind of her own, but Hexwing lords over her viciously as Viral appears more like a hunched-over floating wraith, than a being of character.

I believe the only reason why Hexwing chose to take over the Decepticons is that she needs an army, and what better way of forming one than stealing it? For what purpose? Soundblaster, Chargoil, and I are still working on that, but it can’t be good for her new conscripted troops. The way they now bow to her sickens me!

    Abilities:

At Hexwing’s core must be a being of energy. She is able to manifest energon weapons of great power. Her shock-whip paralyzes limbs on contact. She can bond with smaller micromaster-like beings called Minicons that were captured from… who knows where (need more info). She is also able to hurl ball lighting from her hands. These balls of energy do great damage to internal circuitry for even those that are grounded. Also, some balls have been observed to magnetize the metal objects that they impact with. Thus, this causes her foes to magnetically bond together or with surrounding objects. Needless to say this can immobilize several troops who are unfortunate enough to be standing too near each other, or on a metallic planet. Hexwing is also stronger than any of the other current combiners. I do not know if Predaking will be salvageable after he defended Galvatron… and fell. Even Lord Zarak appears to fear her. The secret of her power? I suspect that she still has a link to the Astral Plane from which she comes.

    Weakness:

Even the most powerful despot must have a weakness. Currently, she doesn’t appear to have one. Yet, I do detect a beginning divergence in the 9 beings that comprise her (based on some surprisingly public arguments). If this divergence can be nurtured in some way… Also, if the secret to Hexwing’s power does lie in the Astral Plane, should that link be severed, maybe she can be dealt with (in a fittingly violent way). There was also a rather embarrassing episode when she threw her ball lightning at Superion. This magnetized Sups, who was already swiftly approaching her. They magnetically bonded in a most peculiar place. Hehehe…. I don’t normally pity Autobots, but poor Superion… Talk about a black widow tearing apart her lover….

Uh, silly me. :stick:  This thread moved downward very quickly, and I had thought it had disappeared. Anyway, in addition to the entries that will be posted here at TFW2005 you can view others that will post their entries on other boards. I will post their threads here. Since it is so early in the contest there aren't any entries yet, but several have contacted me. Art takes time, and some don't want to enter too early.

    Thanks!

Cool!  I think I'll enter this, but just to be clear, Hexwing is a 9-plane combiner, right?

I just needed to double-check before I decided on whether to make the distinct components stand out or not.

    Thanks

    Welcome NIDARAM12!

    Hexwing components are:

Main body - turns into terror jet (as seen on Hexwing Page 2.

Dawn - white jet - left arm
Eniac - space shuttle - right arm
Eve - gray purplish-pink jet - left leg
Moonscar - green jet - right leg
Darpa - futuristic shuttle - left foot
Arpa - futuristic shuttle - right foot
Black Arrow - black jet - chest
Spinneret - helecopter - internal chest behind cockpit (can barely be seen, a wheel can be seen sticking out of the midsection in some shots).

Viral - no jet mode - headmaster

So basically there are nine aerial forms, and one headmaster. As stated Spinneret can barely be seen in combined form.

Hey Nick. It's great to hear that your Hexwing is coming along so well! If you wish to put my name on it, just simply put "Andrew," but it is not necessary. :)

    Entry for NIDARAM12

Well, here she is... I was planning on saving my cards for later but I'm too impatient :p

You don't have to comment good or bad right now because of the contest aspect, but hopefully this will kick things off and inspire others. I decided to show the lighting ball weapon similar to the God Gundam's God Finger attack from the G-Gundam cartoon. There's definitely some "anime magic" at work here but I tried to reach a middle ground between a stylized representation and having enough airplane parts to know what's going on.

Feel free to host this somewhere else or post this pic/post on the other boards. :thumb

Here's a link to the Flickr page in case for some reason it's hard to see the whole thing in the board window http://flickr.com/photos/40859764@N00/147387778/

I will indeed host yours, and others entries. :)  Right now, Insight is giving me headaches with their server migration. With any luck I should have something up within the next couple of days. Congrats on being the first entry to post. :thumb

    Howdy All!

This is another friendly neighborhood reminder that yet another week has passed. There are now approximately two weeks until the completion of the Hexwing Art contest.

I should have a page up soon with art entries from various boards in order to help keep track of the great pieces that have been posted, those still being worked on, or those still currently in the dream phase of artistic talent.

In other words, please still post your entries on this board, but I will also provide a friendlier way of viewing your pieces together. Also with your entry, please post a link to a page of your other works so people can further review your talents as an artist. After all, this contest isn't just about Hexwing. It's about maximizing the contestants exposure as an artist to the public.

Keep up the great works, and I look forward to each entry, and how you view Hexwing.

EDIT: Also, someone asked me if art pieces could be done as a team. I have nothing against teams (and there's nothing in the rules that says you can't). If someone wants to do the line art, and someone else wants to do the coloring on a piece, that's fine. However, a prize (if won) would be divided between the winning team's members.

I'll take a stab at this. I'll get to work on it soon.

On some of the toy pictures, is that supposed to be a cape on the back?

It is a cape of sorts. On the toy, it is purple see-through plastic. What it really is (character wise) is an energy field that repells certain kinds of weapons behind her. It looks like a cape, but it's made of light, or energy. So, it could be made to look like disapating rays, etc. You can either draw her with the cape or not. It's according to your taste.

Nice to have your interest. :)

Yep, deadlines are deadlines. I would extend it, but that wouldn't be fare to those that have already submitted theirs. However, if you have time, the more the merrier. :thumb

Thanks! Actually, your link was there, but when clicked, it would "disappear." It basically turned into the same color as the background. At least I relearned how to change hyperlink colors. Fixed!

*you will probably have to refresh the page in your web browser for the changes to take affect.*

    Howdy All!

Well, it is now approximately one week until the Hexwing Art Contest ends. We have some very nice entries, and of course I’m looking forward to those of you who are still working, or even those of you who decide to take a stab at ol’ Hexwing this week.

As of this post, we have 3 entries, and several others that people have PMed me that they are working on. There may even be a few surprise entries. For those of you that are just interested in seeing the cool skills of these people, you might consider commissioning them to draw your own characters, ideas, or comic books. If you like what they do with Hexwing, think about what they can do visualizing your dream characters, or animating your stories. Links to their art sites can found on the Hexwing Art Contest Page before each of their entries.

    Current tally of artworks:

    The Allspark Forums – 1
Devils Due Publishing Forums – 1
Don Murphy Message Board – 1 (cross posted with TFW 2005)
    IDW Publishing Forums - 0
    TFans Message Board - 0
TFW 2005 Message Board – 1 (cross posted with Don Murphy Message Board)
    Transtopia Message Board - 0

Once again, good luck to those competing as you draw life into this bad deadly rose. Arise, Hexwing….
