Why is it that nobody has gotten around to a 3rd party head for this guy? Maybe with some pistols?
there are alot of universe/classics toys that could use some 3rd party upgrade, like stormcloud or other repaints.
I guess potential demand doesn't warrant the effort to do it?
It's probably viewed as a waste of effort since someone will eventually make a combining Computron with a new version of Strafe.
i need more repaints/retools of the Cyclonus mold!
same with Classics Jetfire
id buy them in any colors all day and night
Probably right, but so far the only one announced is 3rd party, and I don't swing that way. Wonder if there is an existing head that fits the mold...
Good question, I'd like to see one.
How many people have one of those? Doesn't seem like there is a big market of people who have one.
I had one
You don't swing third party, but you want a third party head?
I just looked at one of my Cyclonus molds, the horns fit into part of the nosecone of the ship, so you can't really get rid of those. It'd have to be a much bigger upgrade, and at that point you may as well make a new figure.
I meant that I don't swing 3rd party FIGS, upgrades are okay. And yeah, I'd assume they'd make something to either replace that part of the nosecone, or some sort of clip where the pistols would cover the gaps.
I'd buy a kit like this. But then I'd also buy more recolors of the mold; that Cyclonus mold is one of my favorites and the group of six I've already got look great together.
I'm sure there'd be some demand, but I don't think there'd be much of it. Henkei Strafe by itself typically goes for $80-100 sealed. For people that'd want the kit, some might not already own that version of the mold and it might not be worth it for them to put down close to $100 toward it (on top of the separate cost of the kit). And of the people that do, how much of an incentive would there be to buying one if there are 3rd Party technobots on the horizon? It's a niche buried under an even bigger niche. I just don't see it happening, especially since Strafe has been out for a number of years already.
Guess it's about time I revealed this:
These are the concept sketches I did nearly 2 years ago, and it's shamefully sat on the shelf for too long...
At this point I'd still really like to do a Shapeways kit, and now that I've got experience with Predaking and Hercules, I'd really like to return to this project.
He's a partsformer in this state, but it captures the alt-mode and robot reasonably well...I even made a plasticine version to see how the leg widening parts would look....
What do you think?
That's a great concept. And I'm sure many would support it, but it's definitely a risky venture. Good luck.
great concept art! I'd buy a few for my army of Strafe's (i have like 5 of them lol)
If its parts-former, please all I ask is that you make all the parts attach in both modes. aka no "extra" parts.
even perhaps, make all the parts form their own neat little "3rd mode" drone of sorts? could be sweet!
ps. i have no experience w/ shapes ways and don't know if that would even be possible, but keep us updated!
I like the concept, guess it all hinges on the sculpting and whether or not the Shapeways plastic can come nonporous. THAT is a real turn off. However, if it does indeed work, I may order one in black so I can turn SG Cyclonus into Misfire
