I was hoping to model (or modify and exsisting collectible) and then paint somthing along the lines shown below. If anyone has any ideas on appropriate materials, paint, or perhaps a toy already in production I can purchase. Thanks in advance.

(edit* The left line on the state diagram is incorrect. The arrow should be pointing back up to state 1. My apologizes.)

Looks like a scratchbuild to me. I just don't know of any materials or existing toylines that could bring this design to life.
I suggest grabbing some styrene, and create your vision from the ground up.

It looks like something along the lines of G1/Titanium Scourge might be a good starting point.
From there just add styrene bits (Probably a lot harder than it sounds), and paint as preferred.

Perhaps try a picture of each mode seperately, with a lot more detail, so the experienced Kitbashers may be able to help more.

Also, just in case, In before lock!!!

I'd suggest trying to find an existing Transformer (or other toy) that closely resembles what you're going after first. Then, once you get that piece, start planning around that. Once you've gotten the toy where you want it, you can finish up with painting it.

Like Sculpt-bot said, you may have a piece that requires being a "scratchbuild." If this is the case (which it sounds like), you'll need to build the toy from ground up (or "scratch," hence the name). Like SB suggested, this would require getting some material such as styrene and then going to town with your project.

What is your experience with this sort of thing? I'd recommend reading the kitbash resource thread first. Also, www.tfmaster.com is another good resource on getting started. Keep us posted with your progress, and remember that we're here to help too! :thumb

Just want to say, that's a pretty sweet concept sketch for a BM butterfly.

Other possibilities are Energon Aerialbots, Classics Hot Rod, BM Strika.

Thanks for the advice and kind words. I will upload a more advance schematic when I have time to draw it out. As for my techical capabilities, I have some plastics/modeling experience and a little bit of art backround.

You could modify Armada Jetfire....heavily modify a Cybertron Thunderblast.
