    Hey

I need somebody very techy to help me out

I have some kind of Adware/Spyware/Trojan infecting my PC and I just can't get rid of it

I am pretty good with PC's but this has me stumped

I am using XP media centre edition. I am bombarded with popups all the time I use the web and my machine is running slower than usual

I have full genuine copies of Norton 360 and Spy Sweeper running, both have detected problems, both say they have cleared them but the problem is still there

I have cleared all cookies, cleaned up the registry

I don't want to have to format and start over as that will take me days

I *think* its a Virtumonde virus but I can't track it down. I have spent 8 hours doing scans, getting the all clear only for it to come back right away

I have NO system restore points to go back to (seems to have killed them) and whatever it is totally blocks Microsoft Windows Updates

If anybody is pretty techy and can help me sort this out there are some free toys in it for you!

    Cheers

    Paul

Have you tried the ever-useful ToolbarCop? Helps you track down and eliminate anything that might be hiding itself in IE, if you're using that browser. Hidden add-ons in IE are a major source of nuisance pop-ups.

http://www.simplysup.com/ Trojan Remover, has worked for me on at least two computers. My personal computer, however, was spotless as always.

I had the same thing. I used spybot, adaware, norton, mcafee, and Hijack this. It was still there. What ended up happening is that my father in law adn I went through every file in the ocmputer and deleted anything unusual.

Yeah usual stuff may help; spy-bot, adaware, hijack this. For real extreme problems, I found that Dr. Web Cureit! can work wonders. Make sure you run it in safe mode.

I had a nasty infection a while back and posted the problems on majorgeeks.com. They were great with helping me out. Highly recommended!

i'll try to find the site again (had similar issue with similar results)

its a forum that is really helpful, you input your hijack this info and someone smart will know which file is causing it.

the way i found the site was i did a properties check (right-click properties, etc) and did a google search in the website name...and it came up with various complaints about it.

I used to use the Short Media forums for things like this, that couldn't be removed, with the usual tools. I once got hit by a drive by download that installed some fake spyware remover piece of crap that was actual adware. Damn thing was made of three different processes, each of them capable of restoring the other two. Short Media had a great little removal guide up. Sadly, Short Media has been replaced by a different site. It's supposed to be all the same people, but I don't know if they're as good.

After doing Norton Full scans, then Spysweeper full scans

    I used :-
    SUPERantiSpyware
    Spybot
    Malwarebytes
    ComboFix
    MGTools

    In that order

Takes a while but machine it clean and running much faster now

Congrats! I had to wait a few days to get the geeks on it for my problems. Glad the basic tools got things cleared up for you.
