Aaahhh! 6! No body told me there'd be 6! PlayStation 3 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Alright folks, the holiday season is steadily creeping up on us and I've decided to start thinking about buying a PS3. To prepare for this endeavor, I've already been buying games in advance (Metal Gear Solid 4 Special Edition, Mercenaries 2 Special Edition) and definitely plan on picking up TRANSFORMERS on Blu-Ray at BestBuy for $9.99 this coming Black Friday. For $10, you probably should too. But here's the problem, there's 6 different versions of the PS3. 6! Well, 7 if you count one more that was released in Europe, but that doesn't matter right now. To help you help me decide, here are the 3 most important things: 1. PS2 BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY is a MUST! As my brother plans on taking the PS2 we currently have so he can play his games when he wants instead of us both having to share it all the time. I know all PS3's can play ps1 games, but not all can play PS2 games. I NEED it to do both. 2. I want all the bells and whistles: 4 USB 2.0 ports instead of 2, Flash card readers, SACD support, PS2 compatibility. Basically some older PS3's have things others now don't. The newer ones only have 2 USB 2.0 ports instead of 4, No Flash card readers, No SACD support, and No PS2 compatibility. I want everything I can get when dropping money down on this bad boy. I want to feel like I'm getting my money's worth. And now the hard part: 3. The BETTER backwards compatibility. There's this talk that PS3's with the PS2 backwards comp. hardware are able to pull off the backwards compatibility better than PS3's that only use software to do it. If this is true, then does that mean the hardware ones can play more games than the software ones, -OR- does it actually not mean the number of games they can play and just refers to their performance to play PS2 games when compared side by side? With these 3 factors in mind, that brings the choices down to 2: Model: 80 GB (NTSC) Model Number(s): CECHExx Available colors: Piano Black USB 2.0 ports: 4 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi: Yes Flash card readers: Yes SACD support: Yes PS2 compatibility: Yes- Software (emulation) First available: 2007-08-01 August 2007 In production: No Model: 60 GB (NTSC) Model Number(s): CECHAxx Available colors: Piano Black USB 2.0 ports: 4 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi: Yes Flash card readers: Yes SACD support: Yes PS2 compatibility: Yes- Hardware (Emotion Engine) First available: 2006-11-01 November 2006 In production: No I have heard that despite the 80gb having Backwards Compatibility Software, for the PS2, the best one to get is the 80gb bundled with Motorstorm, and not the 60gb that has the backwards compatibility hardware. If this is true, then please feel free to confirm it. Everyone's help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
