Doing an activity with my students to show how random occurances can cause people tend to find patterns that don't really exist. What I'm looking for is one of those odd images people sometimes find in every day objects and attribute paranormal to. A good example would be this image that some claim is of Pope John Paul II:

However, for what I think are obvious reasons, I want to avoid using religious icons for this.

That's too bad, because there are TONS of those. The virgin Mary on toast, for example.

Yeah, tons of them are religious, but ask your students if they mind, my teachers talk about religion(not as part of a lesson/course) sometimes. That Pope one is scaring me... not in a bad way, just like how much the fire looks like him

In my local newspaper, someone found a rock which had a "picture" on it which resembled Jesus praying.

No, I can't see that one at all. The one people say is God is what I'm talking about. It looks like he's holding his arms out.

That's actually how Rorschach developed his inkblots. He was riding through the country with his kids and they were staring at the clouds. He noticed that what each child saw in the clouds was reflective of their personality.

On a related note, I once shat a turd that looked like Dr. Phil.

I do talk about religion, but this would be specifically aimed at DEBUNKING superstitious beliefs. If I limit it to images of Elvis and Jimi Hendrix, I'm on safe grounds. If I try saying that Toast Mary isn't a miracle...

As for the Pope, the fire's shape changes constantly, and will look very different from different angles. There have been millions of pictures of the ponitiff, and I'm sure similar numbers of pictures of flames. The odds of finding some that look alike is pretty good.
