Well, haha, interesting how the SUV discussion comes up and I mentioned my car is running fine. I went to Car-X last night for an oil change and they say I need my timing belt and water pump repaired. Minimum of $700. It's not worth it to me. So time for a new car!

As I mentioned in the SUV thread, my needs are going to soon require a bigger car, however driving a small car for so long makes me a little afraid to make the big jump to an SUV. Which one do you guys think I should consider?

are there any others that you may recomend?

Out of the 2 you post, I think the Matrix is the better fit. The Taillights may be a bit meh, but the rest is good to look at.

    I would love a Matrix.

Little pricey for us, but I think it would sat car needs.

The Matrix is a little more stylish. but in my experience Hondas are more reliable. I have a 1994 Toyota Paseo now. Only 80,000 miles on it, but after a $500 repair bill, and another $700 needed, I figured it was time to step up.

As far as new cars go, neither one seems too pricy at $15k.

The Fit may be new in the US, but its been out a while in Japan, and I pretty sure Europe has had them before to.

If you want something that is cheaper and 4 doors, you coudl check out a new Toyota Yaris.

Last I checked the Matrix can get awd, but is very underpowered. Something like 110 HP, where as a ford focus gets 130~150 HP.

Check out the engine specs and stuff on the Honda. :checks: oh it is low HP too. Hmm, well depend on if you want AWD, which I believe the Matrix does get.

Also mechanically the Pontiac Vibe is basically the same car as the Matrix IIRC, so check the pricing on that as well.

There is something I always find strange with the Vibe. Its sold as a Pontiac here, but in Japan is sold as a Toyota Voltz....

And I didn't know you needed a hatch. If you can take a 2-3 year old car, a Mazda Protege 5 should fit the bill.

Check out the Mazda 3 5 door. Good car and it actually looks nice for a wagon.

If you think it also looks good, just wait till the Mazdaspeed 3 5 Door hits.
