Help! Do you think that this is 80% mint (C8) or better?

    I need your help.

I am still kinda a newbie to the boards and to the "Hard Core" collecting.

I received my first order from BBTS today, the Takara Animated Arcee.

I was pretty upset to find that the card was severely bent and damaged. I did not pay the extra to get "collectors grade" as I honestly didn't think they would ship me a damaged card. I thought collectors grade was for people who wanted to have theirs like AFA graded or something. I just wanted to keep her MOSC and display her.

This is what the site says for Standard Grade:

This item is in Standard Grade Condition:
The item is brand new, in mint condition, and sealed inside its packaging.
Packaging condition is verified to be 80% mint (C8) or better.
Standard Grade items are suitable to display in the package, or to open.

So I need my fellow board members to school me. Is this C8 condition? Is this 80% Mint? Is this a case where I am going to have to live and learn?

Has anyone else had a similar situation when purchasing from BBTS or TFSource or from any other "collectors" website?

I know I am "lucky" to have received her so please don't post a bunch of messages saying "At least you got yours, etc." I preordered in February.

Like I said I need the wisdom of collectors who have been in the game longer than I have.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Well, if it was an exam in school and you scored a C8 then you just got a "B" if that analogy helps, but usually newer toys as Arcee are going to be in better condition than that. C10- dead mint
C9- Great shape with maybe a small issue on card
C8- Good condition with some flaws
C7-Fair Condition obvious damages tear, dents ,holes.
This grading system is very static what might be a c9 to me might be a c8 to some so its not perfect. hopefully that helps.

If it was me I'd be very disappointed.

Doesn't fit in with what I've heard about BBTS at all. But then, nobody's perfect I guess.

thats about c7 for packaging, bbts is very good about fixing issues like that, go ahead and email them about it and they'll fix it for you hands down.

He must have got the sub standard grade, which really tends to be a beat up box or bad crease, its not like the toys is super expensive if your willing to get a Arcee in better condition its going to run you anywhere from 29 to 35 dollars.\ on ebay. probably what you paid for a sub standard Arcee anyway.

I've only had this happens once when ordering from BBTS.
Keep in mind; its in the human nature to fail now and then.. even for them.
Contact them and let them know about it, their great customer service will.. well, take a look on it.

As others have said, I would shoot them an email. Even the sub-standard ones I have gotten from them havent been bad at all (nothing in my order today had anything close to that). It happens, but they are great to deal with. Other companies, not so much. With their low supply of Arcee, you may be stuck with it, but they will probably address the issue in some way.

Had another company say something to the affect of, "Well, we were near the end of our supply before our restock when you ordered, so you may not have gotten the best box". That company (which I won't name) will no longer get my business.

The (only) problem with BBTS is that they don't protect the contents of their boxes too much on standard shipping. I've never ordered anything mint, so I don't know how they do it for those items. I'm sure at the end of the day though, if you tell them what happened, they'll hook you up with a new one, they seem to strive in customer satisfaction. I'd advise though if you aren't looking to open anything to go ahead and splurge for the extra for mint. I mean if you are going for that, might as well do it right.

    Here is BBTS reply:

    Hi Jacob,

Can we have UPS email you a return label? I am not sure what the remainder of our stock looks like as we are soldout on this item. If there is not a better one we can fully refund your purchase.

    Thanks!

So what should I do...send it back and risk not getting one? I definitely want her but really want one that is in good condition. IF I decide to sell her one day in the future will the damage effect her worth that much?

As someone said I could get a refund and then buy another on Ebay. Currently there are two auctions. One in Taiwan with a Buy it Now for $30 and then $16 shipping and one in the US with a Buy it Now of $140 with $10 shipping.

A full refund will be $35, so either way I am out money to get another one.

What do you guys think I should do????

I'd just hang on to it at this point and take it as a lesson learned. You didn't do anything wrong, but maybe next time just pay the extra few bucks for the perfect box option they offer. That does suck, and I know you don't want to hear it, but you do have one at least.

People are going nuts over this Arcee.

It's a dent on a card people, deal with it. Are you going to keep the item MISB and then send it off to AFA to grade it? If so, you're screwed, but if you want to open it up and transform it\display it, what is the big deal?

--[Can't think of anything else to add that won't possibly offend people in this thread, even though I have no intention of that]

I realize that it is a dent, it's actually curled up as well. I am simply looking at this as a future investment possibility. How many times have you seen people in the JunkEx have to sell things to pay for Car repairs, medical bills, Weddings, etc. I have no idea what the future might hold and I may be forced to part with her.

Besides that, I didn't pay $35 for something to have it arrive not the way it should.

And yes, I have no intention of opening it up and transforming it. I have US Arcee and Japanese Arcee was intended (for me) to display in package only.

Not trying to be an ass, so I hope it didn't come across that way.

A damaged/bended card is easy to deal with, but that wasn't the point of this thread.

I'd take it as a lesson learned, and just keep it. In the future if you're planning on keeping something MISB though I'd spring the extra for Collector's grade. Especially with an online purchase where you can't see the exact time you're gonna get. Keep an eye out for another one and you can always sell this one to someone who's planning on opening it anyways.
