just saw it at a sneak peek... it was pretty cool, but i prefer the first one... the action sequences were pretty cool, and the effects were awesome, but it didnt feel as spectacular as i thought it would be...and some of the acting (selma blair mostly) was just not all that great...and unfortunately most of the cool stuff seems to have been shown in the credits....the ending was pretty predictable, but it was cool still... and poor doug jones, he seemed like he was trying to hard to be david hyde pierce...i know david hyde pierce respected jones' performance in the first movie too much to be credited, and thats why he stayed outta this movie, but i really woulda liked him to show up... overall i still enjoyed it, just not as much as i thought i would...
Oh what, David Hyde Pierce didn't come back for the sequel?!? Looking forward to this, shame it's not out here for a few more months.
I didn't even know David Hyde Pierce('s voice) was in the first movie. Gonna go see it Saturday morning.
I don't know. I saw a clip and Doug sounds pretty good to me. Oh and does the Golden Army looks as cool as they do in the TV spots?? I really hope the toy line produces a figure for the army.
My friends who went for the premier yesterday raved how fun and awesome the movie was, I am going to watch it this Saturday.
Doug Jones played Abe in the first film, but NOT his voice. David Hyde Pierce played the voice, but did not actually appear. Now, Doug Jones is doing the voice as well. For continuity's sake I would've liked Pierce to return, but Jones will do just fine.
Right. Producers thought they could drum up more publicity having an established name like David Hyde Pierce attached to the Hellboy film; it backfired when Pierce refused to take credit for anything because he wanted Doug to receive all the credit for his excellent work.
I can't wait for this. I've read Hellboy comics for years and another chance to see Big Red on the big screen = screamy girl joy GHEEEE
It was a entertaining movie and the effects were pretty good IMO but it doesn't feel as "epic" as the first one - again IMO.
Just saw it and GOD IT WAS AWESOME. Perfect cast. Not a single weak link for me. Great action, especially considering the budget and once again Del Toro tops his creature effects with a amazing showcase of different monsters and creatures in a sequence called the Troll Market. Plot was pretty tight with the only bad element probably being the entire pregnancy thing. Also how badass was Krauss?!?! I thought he would come off as irritating especially since it was Seth who I can love or hate at times, but he kicked ass. Definetely recommended and one of the bests of the summer so far. Also, enjoy it while it last because chances are we may not see HB in a LONG time.
I thought it sounded like Seth McFarlane doing Krauss, who was awesome. I really liked the movie though. The visuals were really cool and I really liked how the trolls, demons, and other creatures looked. Felt like there was some set up stuff for possibly another. Also, I thought it was awesome to see John Hurt at the beginning of the movie. I hadn't even realized he was going to be in it at all.
I wanted to see it this weekend but I have this nasty cough and I don't think the movie goers would experiencing it. The best part is when I get a big flem wad up but not all the way up, just high enough to hit my gag reflex and it makes me retch. It's totally awesome.
Watched it and enjoyed it. There were a few plot holes but nowadays that's common in movies. Krauss did make the movie much better for me. But I just couldn't shake the image of the goldfish from American Dad whenever I heard Krauss talk.
Just saw it two hours ago. Slightly weaker than the first one but still quite enjoyable. And I want a golden army soldier toy.
Saw it this morning and generally liked it more than the first one. Good stuff: - Creature effects - Particularly the Angel of Death, Forest God and Troll Market sequence. Some stunning designs all around. - Some funny moments and good dialogue. - Ron Perlman does a great job again. - Using puppets to act out the exposition at the beginning was brilliant. - Krauss was entertaining. Bad stuff: - The Liz is pregnant subplot was tacked on and horribly cliched, particularly dragging out telling Hellboy about it until the correct dramatic moment. - The subplot about humans hating the "freaks" wasn't developed very well, IMO. I can see how it was meant to evoke sympathy for the villain, but it wasn't integrated well enough into the main plot and, when it did come up, was too blunt and "hammer over the head" to be effective.
I enjoyed it moreso than the 1st film, despite the more lovey-dovey themes found in this sequel. Though, as you other guys mentioned, seeing the other fantasy creatures was interesting to see, along with the funny movements, especially Hellboy & Abe's drunk sing along.
Saw the film today and loved it. Perlman, Jones and Blair were all excellent. I thought it was just as good as the first if not better. Can't wait to see what happens in Hellboy 3 now that Hellboy, Abe, Liz and Kraus have all quit the BPRD.
