There's a reason why this is the video game forum. Looks like some guy was able to edit together all the movie scenes and some gameplay of Wing Commander 3 into a 2 hour movie. I haven't gotten to see "the movie" yet, but I've played the hell out of this game. Anyone who digs epic space operas should check this out. The linky has the links to download the movie, plus any links that will help in viewing the movie. Linky!: Wing Commander CIC Update # 7669 Enjoy the show
Thanks for the link. I'll have to check the entire thing out when I get time. Does it have Freddie Prinze Jr. in it?
No this is the game WC3 which is still one of the best in my Opinion. It has better... It has Mark Hamill
Hope they get to edit together somthing like this for Wing Commander 4. That one raised the bar on all the cut scenes. Also, Malcom McDowell is fricken terrifying (as in bone chilling, not acting job) in that one.
Mark Hamil? Malcolm McDowell? Both of those guys pail in comparison to this. Get real, guys! Windcharger, call me if you get a minute.
NO! NO! That is not Chrispoher Blair! That's some cheap pretty boy mock up. *Head explodes in nerd rage*
I watched it. A mixed bag, really. Queeg (the guy who made this) deserves an A+ for effort. He really worked his ass off to accomplish this, this couldn't have been easy at all. Not to mention friggin' time consuming. The acting itself: Hokey (it's a game, what do you expect?) but quite good performances from all involved. No one phoned it in, so to speak. Really put some effort into their roles. The CGI and sets: Nothing compared to today's tech, but in '94? AMAZING. While it wasn't perfect and you could tell it was greenscreen (it's unmistakable), it was impressive considering when it was made. (This was all before Windows 95 folks!) Silly as shit, but it worked. A+ here as well. The story (and surprise, surprise! There is one!) wasn't bad, though it borrowed a few elements from Star Wars (especially the Death Star trench run and the exhaust port) and I think they could've done without that, especially with Hamill in the lead role. (But hey, it sells, so who am I to rain shit on their parade?) Though...the cut scenes took a damn long time and filled the two hour running time nicely. That being said, while there's enough material here to fill a two hour film, there's not enough substance behind the material to give it the weight it deserved. The fight scenes were just what I expected...it felt like you were watching someone else play a video game (which is exactly what it is, point's still the same.) and you grew bored with that, quickly. Even if it wasn't based off of a video game, it actually FELT like you were watching one, so add in the fact that this was a game and you can imagine how boring some of this could be. (I ended up having to stop half way through and come back to finish it later.) It's a shame, Queeg put a hell of a lot of work into it, and it shows. The "film" while entertaining, wasn't anywhere near watchable or good. It was okay, but not good. That's not Queeg's fault, it's the only material he had to work with, and overall WCIII just wasn't an impressive game, apparently. (At least not to me.) A+ for effort. A+ for the actors and their performances. A+ for the creature effects and CGI. B-/C+ for the story. D-/F+ for the in game footage and it's terrible construction. (Blech.) So in the end, I'll give it a C+/C- and say it's something fun to watch on a rainy afternoon, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again, or a first time. If you get the chance, great. If not, no big loss. Wait for the credits to end though...there's a hilarious gag at the end, and it's well worth waiting through the credits for it. One thing I forgot to mention... I saw the Freddie Prinze Jr. version. While it was visually impressive, it lacked any kind of a story, there was no real plot (I'm still not sure what the hell it was all about, really.) and the Kilrathi weren't even really show until the end of the film. It pales in comparison to WCIII: Heart Of The Tiger. A video game cobbled together into a "movie" was leaps and bounds better than what we received in theaters. PATHETIC. No wonder Prinze doesn't have a career anymore, he picked the worst roles and did so with a shit eating grin on his face.
I am so watching this later. I remain astounded that WC3 and WC4 were left untapped when the feature film was made. Those two games' storylines get massive love from me.
Something like this for WCIV would be beyond awesome. Much better (and more, hah!) cutscenes to work with, and agreed wholeheartedly that Malcom Macdowell was a far more awesome villain than dudes in fuzzy suits.
saw this yesterday. i don't know what to call it. Cheese Whiz or Velveeta. either way you cut it, it was a good dose of cheese and yeah, the actual in game mission scenes were confusing and god awful, but the rest was ok. It was a joy to see how far games have come and why we kinda moved away from FMVs
Wing Commander 3 and 4 where probably the best games to deliver FMV scenes. When I played other games that had FMVs, they looked bad to both those titles, especially WC4. Now, I havent seen Command & Conquer 3 and Red Alert 3 FMVs yet so those two might humble my statement, once I get to playing those games.
