    Heavily Stylized Team Chaar Sprites

I haven't done any pixel art in forever! Ever since arriving at grad school, I was forced to leave all my art supplies and my printer/scanner back at home. :(

Oil Slick's design is based on a based on a heavily stylized doodle that I did of him in class. I want to do the rest of Team Chaar, so we'll see about the others. I'd want to do Spittor next, but seeing as how I've got a rough design down for Blackout (from another doodle in another class), I might do him next.

I may get around to making animated versions of the sprites as some point as well.

    Thanks :D

It'll probably be just Team Chaar for now. I didn't really plan on doing any other characters from Animated.

These are great! I like your take on these animated characters. Very cool. Though, I thought that was Shockwave at first, not Cyclonus. But he looks cool anyways. :D

Oh, and non environmental friendly RX-8 below. :lol

Animated version of the Oil Slick sprite has been attached.

Yeah, the distortion from the Attachment preview really exaggerates the massive shoulders, lanky stature, and "horns" even more.

How about a transforming one? lol

I think the designs are great, but the only thing about these guys I'm really not digging is the pillow shading. Have you considered trying to move the light source, perhaps to an upper corner, or even just straight up? I think it would really help these guys to get a sense of depth, and, with the right contrast,a nice metallic sheen.

It's not pillow shading if the light source is in front of them... And no.. skewing the light source, as I've learned over the years, makes for unappealing shadows.

    Thanks! :D

Here's a WIP of what I've been working on today. Designing Spittor was surprisingly hard. I even had a doodle of a general idea of what I was going to do as a reference.

If I recall, pillow shading is more-often-than-not associated with a frontal light source to begin with. Over the years, I've almost always used an upper-corner light source, and haven't really had any issues with shadows.

Here's what I managed to come up with over my lunch break, and a bit more at home.

I do like, however, how it gave the head a glowing effect, whether or not that was intentional. It's hard to make out in the sprite, so I'm curious over whether or not he's still intended to have his helmet head.

The complete Spittor sprite and the animated version of the same sprite have been attached to the first post now.

I used to do that too, but it just doesn't look that appealing to me.

I do like the sheen of the metallic collar around his neck and the "skull" shoulder piece looks a lot better now but other than that I'm not really feelin' it =/

Yup, the glowing effect was intentional. As for the jar head, in this design, the jar is the head.

    lol food.. mmm....

I've only got Strika left to do, aside from her and Blackout's animated versions of their sprites.

I finished her head so far, but I'm not sure how I want to approach her design. Going with her big, beefy look would fit in with the character, but I wonder how much people would hate me if I made her as thin as the other femmebots lol

As of know, her current head design resembles a hybrid of the BM/Animated versions.

I also might do redecoes/retools of these fellas once they're all done, like Shattered Glass versions of them.
