No surprise there. It was pretty much the only sure thing tonight. Well deserved, too, though I don't know why he was only considered in the supporting category. His character was important enough to the story (and really the overall success of the movie) to be considered lead actor. He would have won that one too.

Too bad The Dark Knight was snubbed for best director and best motion picture. I liked it a lot more than I did Slumdog Millionaire.

I agree, and Slumdog is definitely one of my top 5 for the year. The only other nominated movie I saw was Button and it had no business being anywhere close to a nomination for best picture. I have not heard good things about The Reader either outside of Winslet. It's hard to imagine any of them being a greater achievement in film than The Dark Knight was.

Meh. It's the Academy. They tend to hate everything that's not a intricate drama piece, even if it is really good.

Wonderful. I was kinda suprised at how emotionless Heath's family seemed to be while accepting the award. Hell some of the people in the audience(Angeline Jolie stuck out) had more emotion while they recieved the award then they did.

I'm sure the parents would've preferred to have their son in place of that silly award and unlike celebs, are probably adverse towards public display of emotions in regards to a tragic family loss.

The whole show sucked and i'm glad they at least "gave" the award to Heath Ledger. It was their excuse and way of saying "see we honor superhero movies". Yeah right...

    Excellent news.

Well deserved, and is a no brainer.

His performance as the Joker was incredible. When he was on screen, there was no Heath Ledger, and that is something that will always stick with you.

    Incredible actor.

I agree. He gave a brillant performance as the Joker. But I wasn't surprised when he won Best Supporting Actor.

Yeah the awards for Heath were expected.

I was happy about "Milk" though =)

I hate to be a dick but I really doubt he would have gotten it if he was still alive. He might have gotten the nomination though.

I mean he did good in the role, but, you know.

Agreed, the Oscars are just an excuse for self-indulgence by the film industry.
