What with the recent Infestation 2 event and Cyclops due to make an appearance soon, I've been messing about with a bit of scratch-building whilst I've been working away from home and stuck in hotel rooms. So, here's a start on Hearts of Steel Bumblebee. He'll be leader-sized, so as to be in scale with Cyclops.

It doesn't look like much at the moment, just the basic shapes, although these curves are real tedious to do in styrene. There's quite a few layers of scored and curved styrene under there to help it all stay rigid

Next will be the leg mechanism now that I have access to my joint bin.

Ready to see what you come up with, but personally I think leader size is too big. Knight Morpher Commander is probably the right scale to Cyclops, as freaking Iron Clads (ships in general) are huge. I would make Bumblebee not much longer than HALF KMC in train mode and maybe as tall in robot mode. You save yourself on work and materials.

But hey, that's just my thoughts :]

Tell you what though, if this comes out as well as I hope I might be coming to you to commission Ironhide and Ratchet cars to link with my KMC :D

Yep, I accept your point on the size of the alt modes. Scale has always been a tentative issue in the TF universe, so I decided I'd like quite a substantial Bumblebee, to show in bot mode alongside Shockwave/Cyclops when he comes along. I'm hoping around 7" inches for Bee, compared to Shockwave's 9.25".

Let's see how it pans out and then we can talk about Ironhide/Rachet ;)

Working on the arms inside the boiler at the moment. Wow, do I hate making joints out of styrene :S

Wow, that is looking great! Not a fan of the size but I'm sure it's a little easier to work with at the larger scale. Still will be quite a sight to see when it's done.

I just bought some styrene a few weeks ago and was working on a Bee in scale with Prime (from a train mode standpoint) but I'm already stuck on making circles and curves. Your work looks fantastic, so I'm looking forward to seeing what else you do with it.

It seems size is an issue to most. Maybe I should call this MP-HOS1? I haven't intended to make it in scale with the KMC, as I wanted something on grander scale. But if anyone was interested in an in-scale version I'm sure I could sort you out with something ;)

Curves and circles can be a pain, but I seem to have got that technique down now. Still working on his internals and another side project... Here, have a teaser :D

I'm keeping my options open and trying to make my scratchbuilds such that they could be cast if there was interest (i.e. Prime's legs are made in two halves with interlocking pegs, and BB's smokestack are removable). Would anyone be interested in MP-scale HoS figures?

Most definitely, as long as they're on a similar scale and can interlock. Would love to add some HoS models to my MP shelf.

I need to scratchbuild his leg joints, waist and head, so shouldn't be too far off. He is third on my list to complete after Metroplex and TFP Unicron. I'm hoping to be back on him in July, alongside the leader-class HoS Prime (the legs of which you can see above) and leader-class Infestation HoS Prime.
