So...essentially the idea is copying what those scientists did in the "Old World Blues" DLC for Fallout New Vegas?

Call me crazy but I'm fully willing to do that.

Just give me a pair of rocket launchers and a permanent connection to the internet and we're cool.

Technically we'd be cyborgs, as we'd still have some portion of our organic selves.

I can't help but think of the likes of Krang, Doom Patrol's Brain, those spidery "monks" in Jabba's palace, and a billion other brains in robot bodies. One of my favorite villain archetypes, actually. There's also Hector ConCarne who attached his brain (and stomach) to a fucking BEAR, though I guess that moves away from the idea here.

I always wonder how feasible this would be. We got a whole slew of systems that are all intricately connected to each other.

I don't really know how to feel about this.
I watched the Youtube advertisement thing, but all that was to be gleaned from it was a deep voice saying, "this is gonna be so rad for everything wow", without actually explaining much. This partly brings up the problem with living in a Darwinian society. The video continuously mentions how human evolution has stopped, and how 2045 will be a drastic change, pushing man to peace and wisdom, and changing our goals to endless self-improvement. This sounds like another instance where the rich will have complete dominance over everyone else. I also don't think uploading our minds to robotic interfaces will really accomplish that any more than the rest of the Information Age has. I guess there's nothing to do but wait and see, but I'm not convinced yet.

I think Hector WithMeat could be considered a parody of the idea of putting brains in unnatural bodies, and to the bear's credit he did save the brain in the one episode where Hector gained the super robot body (which ironically nearly ended up killing him).

It seems Ghost in the Shell won't be science fiction for long.

Well, I want to have use of my senses. Imagine being numb for an eternity. I'd short circuit myself quick.

It'd be lovely to see actual results from all these "wealthy/dreamer plans to do x crazy thing." Within the last few weeks we've heard of people planning to resurrect dinosaurs, build a 2nd Titanic, go further into space, etc., yet nothing on how they even plan on going about any of that.
Even just making a solid, well thought out argument that x crazy thing is actually possible would be much welcomed.

Now that I think of it, how does having a mechanical body = immortal? Machines aren't exactly beyond breaking down and ultimately becoming destroyed, and those don't have to worry about organic brains that absolutely MUST be kept alive at all times.
There is, of course, the whole problem of robotics still being in their infancy.

EDIT: And let's say you manage to become a brain-in-a-robot. Could you even accept your new body as you, or would you always be aware you're inside something else entirely. And then what about how other people react to you. There will most likely be a certain "uncanny valley" effect, and we've seen that some people are not above assaulting others because they're different.
