I've started watching this series again, and I can't stop wondering how awesome this series really is. Great cast, sets, costumes, we have tons of intrigue, sex, blood and violence.

This is a good sign for the Song of Ice and Fire series. We have of all the above mentioned things in the SOIAF books so I see no reason why SOIAF series can't be of the same quality as ROME.

If it's the same Rome that I'm thinking of, it's actually a BBC production rather than an HBO original.

Too bad they won't make more, since it was sooo expensive to make.

I loved Rome. Granted allot of it is about as historically accurate as a Carry On film, but it was massively entertaining as a rediculously decadant and often tacky soap opera about a bunch of dysfunctional megalomaniacs and some of the regular folks caught in the middle of thier bullshit.

HBO made it, the BBC just chipped in some of the cash.

Rome was fun, it was just odd how little every one but Gaius Julius Caesar Divi Filius,Ptolemy Caesar, and Vorenus's kids stay the same age. I don't think the compresion of so much time in to so few episodes helped. Still over all a good series, at least they did not have every solder in lōrīca segmentāta.

As I recall Lorica Segmentata was used mostly in imperial times, not the republic.

You are corect sir! That was why I was quite happy to see very little of it in Rome (and only in the second season).

I'm still so very pissed the series got canned, which is why the 2nd half of season 2 was so rushed :(

I feel your pain, what ever issues I had with the historical acuracy it was still a good show (and Atia was fucking hot!). How ever I can sugjest this: The Masters of Rome by Colleen McCullough, it's a seven book series spaning from January 1, 110 BCE through to January 16, 27 BCE. I think that if you liked Rome you will like these seven books.

Rome was a bloody great show. Sex, violence, intrigue, hot chicks, swords, what's not to like.
Especially awesome since the whole thing was inspired by one reference on one of Caesar's diaries.

I was sad to see Rome end so soon, same with Deadwood and Carnivale.
