I was just curious, I know a bit about transformers, but my exposure has been G1 mostly, the movies, and little snippets here and there, but...

Have they ever done anything in different time periods, I don't mean like the steam punk transformers, or the what they did with the G1 movie that jumped ahead a few years. Im thinking more like something in the distant future where OP is dead, and someone else has taken the throne, or even like a different team of TFs that have their own agenda/adversary, etc. Just curious, it would be a cool if they started a new franchise. Love BB OP and the bunch, but it would be neat to see a whole new team.

I think the closest they did to what you are saying was season 3 of G1 with the whole new cast. Unfortunately, the show didn't do well with kids and ever since then, Hasbro has kept Optimus (Prime/Primal) and Megatron in all the series ever since.

G1 season 3 was the first thing I thought of too, but really, I suppose the closest thing to what the OP describes is Beast Wars, isn't it? 300 years in the future, after the age of Autobots and Decepticons, a whole new political power structure on Cybertron, with a new faction of villains with scheming goals...

See the last part was the kinda thing Im talking about, but did they ever expand on that. I think it would be neat, and something fresh. I guess the new character would have to be A prime, but...

No, besides Beast Machines. They never expanded on the Beast era.

    May I suggest Masterforce?

It's Japanese G1, the cast being recoloured Power- and Head- Master Juniors, Overlord, Seacons etc. Whilst Powermaster Prime appears to be in it, he's a completely different character called Ginrai.

Do a search here for Masterforce, there have been several threads about it.

    MASTAH-FORCE!!

They also played with time travel quite a bit in the comics, such as the UK g1 series, and the devil's due gi joe / transformers crossover.

It was usually a case of "awful dystopian future because you screwed up in the past" though.

No, never i think. It would be great if they showed Cybertron millenia ago, movie style...with new characters, and have maybe cameos only of Optimus and Megatron because they supposedly were around already.

    It would be pretty interesting.
