Have you ever bought a second of a toy for security?

Not one to keep MISB, not a redeco of a mold you have, not for Army building. You just buy a second one because you really like a toy and are worried about something happening to it.

Today, I gave into an urge I've had for about a month to buy a second TR Galvatron. The main reason I did so because of reports of breakage of the TM neck. I've been careful with my existing Galvatron since I read those reports, but still.

And it's weird. My second Galvatron is just going to sit in the box until/if I need it. And I became keenly aware that I could spend the same money on either TR legends wave 2 or RiD quillfire and thunderhoof. But a Second Galvatron just seemed like a higher priority.

Granted, now that I have it I've given myself permission to do certain things. Like I repainted Nucleon to closer match Takara's TM Megatron look. And I may get out the second cannon to use with Galvatronus, as I always wanted a cannon for him.

Has anyone else done something like this?

Sort of... Not sure if it really fits, but here it goes.

A few years ago I was lucky enough to stumble upon an amazing deal for a MISB G2 Dreadwing & Smokescreen set in a Euro box. That was my favourite toy growing up, so of course I was ecstatic. A while later, I had to buy a loose set of the same figures not just because I wanted to, but to protect the MISB pair from being opened in the odd event that a burst of nostalgia would get the better of me.

So, I guess I bought a second to protect it from... Myself.

Yes I have definitely done this, I did it for Animated Blurr, TFP Wheeljack and ROTF Lockdown (kept the extras) I've done it for MP Loudpedal and Road Rage (since sold the extras) and I've been trying to get one good enough for G1 Slugslinger!

    All the best

ROTF Prime. Also to have one in vehicle mode, one in robot, because he's such a bastard to transform and I'd be worried about breaking it as it got older.

Quite a few times actually. Latest instance would be 3x Titan Master Apeface. Just love that little bastard enough that I wanted to have extras just in case. Good thing too since my first one already has gotten a tad loose.

I've kinda done it twice, but not really as insurance in case of damage. First time was I bought a second Battlecore Optimus about a month ago from a member on the boards so I'd have that one for photos and could reprolabel the original into Thunderclash because I was sorely tempted to just go ahead and repro my original one and be done with it. The second instance was insurance in case I didn't get the version I wanted. Missed out on LG Scourge pre-orders so in case I couldn't get one, I got a Hasbro one (plus he looked decent in ship mode) and now I have one on the way from a friend who got two by mistake.

More times than I'd care to admit. Not in a while, though....mostly in my earlier days.

The only one I really care about out of the three is Swindle. The only reason why I got Buzzsaw is because I wanted the free shipping (plus I was kind of worried about the original one's stickers coming off over time) and Breakdown because why not.

No, I don't buy multiples, unless I am customising. I feel that having only one copy of a figures enhances the attachment that I have towards it. Kinda odd, but hey.

    MP Soundwave and MP-10.
I don't feel bad playing and displaying them when I know I have one spare that is safe and sound.

That reminds me... my Laserbeak's thruster broke recently...

If I know a figure has QC issues, I'm more like to NOT buy it than I am to buy two of them. If it breaks (soon after and due to no fault of my own), then I'll return it. If it's a commonly documented issue, I won't repurchase the figure.

I HAVE bought two of certain figures, because I wasn't sure if I'd want to customize one later on down the road, and they were either on a really good sale and/or they seemed really popular on the forums (and I was afraid of them being long sold out by the time I realized I wanted to customize it).

    Yes.

Three or so times, so not very often. I always open the backup to make sure it's in "working order" as well, so that years later should anything terrible happen, I'm not trying to replace it with a defective figure as well.

no, the only 'extras' i buy, are ones i find at garage sales/thrift stores. they are only toys. it isn't like they are just going to fall off the face of the earth. I can always buy another one. or a junker to repair it with.
