    Really?

With insightful comments such as these, you've definitely contributed to the purpose of the thread.

As someone who has seen many good people come back from the hell of war changed utterly by things they have done and seen, I am all about encouraging people to seek help. In the military culture, a lot of guys are afraid to talk to anyone for fear it makes them seem weak or that it will ruin their career. In the past few years, those stigmas are starting to go away, but there are still way too many brave men and women that try to drink it all away, do drugs, or just plain give up. I salute those in this thread brave enough to get things off their chests; I wish them well and pray that they will endure and prosper. I also salute those offering support, whether by encouraging them to speak to a professional, or to just to find the little joys in life that even a child's cartoon can bring.

And for those that can only post sophomoric jibes such "U need to get LAID!!", I feel sorry for you. But for God's grace, there you go. I suggest your opinions are better kept to yourself.

Yeah, I'd agree that in the end, you're better off seeking professional help. However, the "u need to get laid" comment depends on the types of issues someone has. My best friend's brother didn't lose his virginity until he was 28. Up until then, he had had only one girlfriend what lasted for three months who wouldn't let him anywhere near her girl parts. In the end, she turend out to be a lesbian. F'd him up for years. He'd always been this really insecure, unhappy, person until he finally met a girl who took some sympathy on him and screwed him. It was pretty much like night and day. Overnight, he seemed a changed man. While I don't think this works for everyone, sometimes it will for some people, depending on their issues. Turns out, this guy's hangup was him not feeling like a man and thus women avoided him like the plague. He could never be happy doing anything. Now, he's well adjusted with a long term girlfriend and a new career. He eats healthy, works out now - changing routine and diet can help as well sometimes. While other times, people just need their pipes cleaned. (But I do admit, it won't solve everything, and may in certain circumstances make more problems.)

I'm sorry I wasn't aware if that was the intention. But if so then I take my previous statement back :)

Thanks for this point of view in things and I do understand this aspect. However for me all the "girls" and "get laid" doesn't really affect me.
Why I haven't had a girlfriend has been a conscious choice on my behalf and it may seem strange and weird but at this/those periods in life, well I was protecting myself - that's how I coped.
I've had girl friends but none real close - I've never been the fun spontanious guy, the sporty one, the popular one, the joker nor the clow. But rather the silent obeserving but good friend. The 'good friend' is the problem there when talking girls - but rather as I've learned very late in life as some of my girl friends from back in school/college told me, back then I seemed unachievable and my "attitude" towards them seemed as I was not interested in being more than a "friend" ... one of the girls that were most close to me told I was "mysterious, sharpminded wise one" in class because if was very different from other boys. That NEVER occured to me, that I was giving those signals.
All summed up I'm not afraid of girls/women, I just didn't see them in my life in a very long time - because I had enough in myself socially.

To counter any coming "get laid" comments.
    1) Has been done !
    2) Personally - rather never had any real girlfriend at 31 then no education at 31 (that's just me and I don't intend step on any ones toes).

    Sureshot90,

I respect you immensely for being able to talk about your situation like you have.

I wish I could do the same, but it is really hard for me to talk about my horrible life and my situation.

Thank you :)  I did give it consideration whether to post what I wrote or not. Also it's my life given in "rude milestones" so to speak. Not every detail is in there since they are more personal.

However I'm wholeheartedly glad for the overall response from people, and I really take every suggestion into consideration :)

Life has its ups and downs. When you're at the worst, you're going to get the best real soon. Personally, being a 16 year old, a former/constant bully target, having Asperger's Syndrome, separation anxiety, and feeling horribly alone, hurts me a lot. But I know that I can hope for a better future, and that I shouldn't dwell on the wrongs that have been done onto me.

Cool man. At least you're talking about things. When you bottle things up, things tend to overpressurize and then explode. It's best to releave some of that pressure by talking about things. Props dude. Hope things work out for you.

I understand that you only want to expose only so much of what has happened in your life to us. After all, all we are, are strangers to each other for the most part.

I just wish I could express things like you can/have! I have an extremely hard time talking and articulating what I want to with anyone even family. I keep to myself, which I know is not healthy.

I don't always enjoy what life throws at me but I take heart in the fact that I have a life to live, good or bad only becomes apparent at the end of the story.

I served in my country's mandatory National Service as a Platoon Medic, one of the heaviest loads any company man needed to carry all while doing my best to keep on smiling for the sake of the men. No matter how shitty the terrain or weather, I had to keep platoon morale up. I'm not a fit guy mind you. I'm short and stout but there's always this little bit inside of me that can't ever let others down which is what kept me driven for my 2 years in service. To put it simply, I can let myself down. I do it all the time. But to let down others who depend on me? Unforgivable.

Devote yourself to a duty. Doesn't need to be religious or political. It just needs to be something you tell yourself you should do and you do it well. Helping others always helps ease the restlessness in one's self. Help out in the salvation army, go to your church/temple/mosque/community center and render your services to the community. It's not about giving money to these organizations, its about literally getting grime under your fingernails to help your fellow man.

At the end of the day, Man is but a memory, if no one remembers him, he would never have existed. But work at it, be seen, do good deeds and those around you will see you as the person that you are and that my friend is a feeling that no amount medication can give you.

I was a piss-poor soldier but everyone in my Company remembers how hard I worked to keep up with them and how much I cared for their well-being in the field. I take heart knowing I took care of my boys and that helps me through the day.

Be wary of those who would attempt to lead you astray by insincere crap like drugs, directed hatred at any particular race/religious group, excessive drinking and so on. For every good person out there, there are 10 who are rotten to the core and will do what it takes to bend you their way of thinking because they're already trapped in this hole.

Ultimately, Life has its challenges, and the best way to face them to not let others down with your actions. That's my opinion anyway.

    once.

i learned the hard way to change the negative into positive. there's always two sides in everything and you can always flip the bad side of the coin into the good side. its up to you to do something about it. my dad taught me this. my life changed after.

one thing is for sure you're not old and/or about die. i've seen old peeps complain that they didn't do anything with their lives and they are about to die. its not too late. you have control over your life. this means that:

    1) you don't need viagra yet so use it as much as you can
    2) do something about your depressing life
    3) if you don't do #2 you actually like your life this way
    4) #3 is stupid. stupid peeps complain and don't do anything about the problem.

It's a whole lot easier said than done. If you can say something like that, then you don't have a clue what it's like.

dude u been through a lot..but you got to live on..life is hard..its meant to be..if u cant find a reason for it then seek some professional help..we've all got our demons that haunt us....some can conquer them some need help..dont let this or things that happen to u define you..u define yourself...go out there and put ur mark on the world..even if its a small one..things arent going to come to you..you have to go out there and seek them..and sometimes it takes awhile for the ball to get rolling in ur favor.. but lfe is wonderfull and full of exciting things to do..even if its something as simple as transformers find something worth living..don't DON'T give up the future can only get brighter..

And because its not as easy as it is said, therapists/counselors/psychologists have a pretty stable career.

Exactly! I laugh at how people think there is a quick bandaid to slap on and then everything is magically better. There are other disabilities besides the ones we can see.

    Step 1) Don't be depressed
    Step 2) Be happy
    Step 3) Don't be unhappy

That is so insulting to those who are suffering with mood disorders and genuinely are looking for help.

but couldn't seali_me's #2 "do something about your depressing life" = seeing a therapist? He didn't say "get over it" or " buy hookers" he said "do something about it" which is the only thing that's going to help as talking to a bunch of Transformer fans isn't...

Fuck "happy pills" and this whole "you're severely depressed, seek help!".

You're in a state of synicism and repressed sadness/lonliness stemming from events that you've had growing up. You're not sad because nothing makes you happy (which is what depression is), you're sad because of the events you've gone through, and couple that with the lonliness and not being able to share that with anyone, it magnifies it ten fold and you feel even worse.

Taking "anti-depressants" is the absolute WORST way to fix the "problems" you have. What you need is to talk about it - whether through therapy, or through people here on the boards. Not everyone on this board is a total douchebag trying to be funny to get some more Internet street cred ... some of us are human and know EXACTLY what you're going through.

For what it's worth, I'm glad you're here. I'm glad you've shared this story, and I'm glad that you have the desire to want to fix it and make it better. That's the biggest step to take, and with someone in your current state of mind, it makes me PROUD to see that some people are taking steps to get better instead of turning to the same-old, same-old of pills/drugs/whatever.

Do what you feel is best. We will ALWAYS be here to talk to you about it. And we will support you. Thank you for sharing that with us, and if there is anything I can ever do, don't hesitate to let me know.
