I've been going to Howl o Scream since it started, missing only the last 2 years but when we went in 2007 it was really disappointing. Howl o Scream had been getting milder year after year because as I heard it in the Park, parents were complaining when their kids ( 6 mos to 9 yrs.) were crying, scared, and in general the place was too much for them. In response, AB, really watered down the haunted areas because of the complaints. I quit going after that. I've had at minimum a silver pass for Busch Gardens since 98 and 2008 was the first year I hadn't renewed.

Anyway how the hell did this turn into me bitching about haunted houses? :lol  But there's hope, I hear Cloud Strife is working there at Howl o Scream and IIRC I think he said they may be taking Howl o Scream back to its roots. Go! Enjoy! Have Fun! Most importantly eat plenty of kettle corn and have a great time and a safe trip home.

I hear you guys are from NC are y'all gonna stay the night in Wmsburg or do it all in one trip? I thought Raleigh was at least a 6 hour trip? LMK, I know the area pretty well, might be able to point y'all in the right direction.

Edit: just googled it and it's about a 4 hr trip not as bad as I thought...

phew, i thought this was another ghost thread.

i never been one the haunted houses that they do.
i did go to a haunted hotel event. it was pulled of nicely.
the one that got me was this undead waiter that opened the main dish on a dinner table to expose a groaning decayed woman's head

I've done Howl-O-Scream only the last 2 years. I heard it is much scarier this year which I'm happy about. That's the way it should be. Parents need to be responsible. If they have young children and don't like it, they need to leave early then.

Raleigh is actually 3.5 hours from Williamsburg.

I've been through our local one, Huston's Haunted Hollow.

    Hustons Haunted Hollow

It's not bad for a small, locally run HH.

    Been to one?

Yeah, for about 22-24 nights a year for 13 years now:

    Home

Been with that outfit for 6 years, 2 years with an operation called the Labyrinth in Santa Cruz before that (which was an offshoot of Freakling, it's how I got in with them), 5 years at the UNR (Reno) campus official house.

We run 3 distinct houses in Vegas every year. Company has existed in one form or another since 1976.

    We're kind of a big deal. ;)

I perform, have been head tech of a house, now do dedicated costuming for whichever house I perform at under our costume mistress, and assist with tech work. I keep busy.

Actually, we pitch to an older audience by and large and, if all goes as we predict, next year we cycle out The Mortuary and replace it with an 18+ only attraction.

I'm always hearing moans and groans in my house, but it's not haunted.

    Ebay:
We have two here run by the same people. Primitive Fear and 13th Street Manor. 13th Street is in an abandoned mall so its pretty awesome :thumb

The radio station I work for has live remotes from both haunted houses every weekend this month so I get to go for free :)  they're cheesy but so much damn fun.

    I love Halloween :)

A few friends and I plan on making one. If we can, it's going to be awesome. Scary and funny at the same time.

Un-fucking-believable. These people need to wear those "stupid" signs that that redneck comedian talks about.

    It totally is.

Not all houses pay their people, by the way. A fair number go on volunteer work.

Oh, and KnightSaberAmi, we do not tone it down for kids. If anything, we crank it up. We have a reputation to uphold, after all. Just this Saturday, I had a kid, maybe 9 years old, literally screaming on the floor in the fetal position at my feet and I sure didn't let up. The two women with him had to literally drag him out.

Our manager likes complaints like that.

The philosophy here is: they pay to be scared, we oblige.
