Hauler (called "Hauler" in his one appearance) joined Ratchet and Cliffjumper in recovering Hound from the bottom of a ravine. He never spoke or transformed to robot mode. He was also yellow, which made him look like Grapple. Later, during a spiritual journey through the Matrix of Leadership, Rodimus Prime was shown a vision of eight Constructicons creating Megatron. The identities of the two extra Constructicons remains unknown, though quite possibly one might be Hauler.

Do you think this is possible, do you think he was just in one episode and thats it, or do you have other thoughts on him?

I have eHooby Hauler, and he's neither a Con nor another Grapple. His Bio says he can be any color he wants to be. He just happens to be green.

 

Actully he was soera seen in robot mode once in the pilot.

 

I'm gonna say they are the same vehicle really just a few tweeks here and their.

Hauler and Grapple are the same character. Much like Broadside and even Cyclonus who had some alternate animation models used in episodes, Hauler is in the same boat, it's just that he was far more ambiguous as to his real identity rather then the others clearly being different animation models.

 

I buy the defected Constructicon angle, but ultimately it is Grapple before they made him Grapple.

If that's Hauler/Grapple, then who's the green dude at the back?

As the series was establishing itself, there were many many generic bots to be seen throughout, especially in the pilot.

Who knows why Hauler was changed to Grapple? Someone must, but they ain't round here to tell us (at least officially).

 

If he were colored green I'd believe him to be a defected constructicon. But, as it stands I say he is a mis-named Grapple.
