    Ebay:
May God have mercy on the fool that pays almost $300 for a $50 toy that will be readily available in a few months.

    I award you no points.

£150+ some one is counting on some one buying this for a review ... or counting on some one being a bit mental

Now you know there will be a moron that is going to pay that just for the "I got it first" status.

Yes, and unfortunately, the fandom is retarded like that. An example is easily found by looking at news of "first review!"

That big-ass plastic prison is awesome.

Still not going to bother with it. The Takara 2010 release seems to be superior based on what I've seen so far. And, it "matches" my 2010 Primus.

Curious what kind of price Amazon ends up pushing these out at. They tend to stick to the MSRP for only so long before discounting stuff.

May this not be on the same order of magnitude as $300 Blitzwing.

I'm pretty sure that was a low point in the fandom for how much money people throw at stuff JUST for "I GOT IT FIRST FOR A REVIEW".

The other low point being the ROTF Soundwave debacle of course.

It's like this for tonnes of other fandoms as well. For example, certain Yugioh cards get released before they're legal as game machine prizes, and people will pay insane amounts to get the good ones before they can even be used, knowing full well that by the time they're legal, their price will likely go down because of it being mass released in a more accessible form.

Pretty sure he just means that some people overpaid to have it several months early, that's all. It was the earliest ROTF toy that was reviewed by all the "firsties" IIRC. Or maybe it was Sideways - hell, I forget now. But of course both were available everywhere for retail price a mere few months later.

Doesn't have to be that one. It happens often. Just watch the news on front page and you will see how people really try everything they can, even overpaying to secure a first show off.

for some of the folks with the reviews and paying triple the amount to get it early, they get that money back anyway and more through sponsorship and youtube view counts. without paying that extra money, no early review, no youtube money.

It had to do with a reviewer getting it to review first, and overpaying, as one would expect.

And it so happened someone else happened to get one earlier and get a review up. So there was a bit of a tantrum that occurred as a result, mainly due to the fact that the first reviewer who'd paid a lot was banking on Youtube money to pay his bills.

I'm keeping this as general and namefree as I can for a reason, too. Not asking people to name names in the thread or anything.
