Consider me intrigued. It's hard to guess what Hasbro has in mind. I'm sure they have seen how well full-blown combiners done by 3rd parties have done.

and other rumoured ones like TFC Toy Uranus, FansProject not-meansor, Maketoy not-computron etc.

They are bound to consider they need some competitive response and this could be it. However would Hasbro try to release Devastator, G1-Bruticus, Superion, Menasor to go head to head against the 3rd parties or would they pick from the other combiners that are not on the 3rd parties radar?

We've seen Takara-Tomy (& by default Hasbro) go head to head against a 3rd party. i.e. Masterpiece Soundwave vs FT Toy Acoustic Wave. I think it is/was safe to say with MP Soundwave, FT Toy's Acoustic Wave is/was basically a goner.

I think if Hasbro-TakaraTomy are to do combiners i think it is safe to say they need:
- a full-bodied combined mode that looks like a solid robot, not like a bunch of pieces all glued together.
- a combined robot which had normal hands and feet. Not like the energon stuff.
- individual component robots. We can live with remolds but not plain repaints (the energon experience showed what the fans wanted)
- ideally a voyager sized main robot to give the combined form a better overall look and bulk.

 

Combiners subsequent to G1 didn't necessarily address the concept the same way.... but there were still some interesting, and valid, efforts along the way.

 

are you confusing "legitimate" with "to your liking"?

It legitimately features 5 robots that form pieces of a larger robot, and connect together to do so. Whether you like it or not is your opinion, and we are all free to form our own...but whether or not it is legitimate? That's hardly up for debate. 5 robots combine to form 1. End of story.

 

If they are going to be the same as FOC Bruticus then I'm all for it! PCC was a disappointment and I don't think I can keep up with 3rd parties unless I get a job.

OT: FOC Bruticus is a valiant effort and I think he looks great. Future combines will only look better, and I'm excited to see where this trademark is headed.

 

Fingers crossed for a few actual Classics-verse combiners.

Didn't the writers for Prime say one of the things they really wanted to do was combiners? Maybe Hasbro decided that FoC gives them the a good chance to bring them back.

 

I'm just waiting for the inevitable let-down... :/
