Hasbro posts strong 2nd quarter profits partly on the backs of our favorite "morphing robots" ;)

Hasbro 2nd-quarter profit beats expectations - Yahoo! Finance

The conference call and additional info is available here:

Hasbro : Investor Relations : Investor Overview

So far the topics of interest include:
    - Extremely strong sales of ShoutFactory G1 series, 100k units sold in the first four weeks of sales
    - Expect continued momentum from a ROTF DVD release this fall
    - Expect continued momentum to continue into 2010 from TV support next year (no additional info though)
    - Transformers sales roughly 50/50 split between US and OUS
    - Hasbro expects the full impact of ROTF on sales to occur in the 3rd and 4th quarter, based on the TFTM07 sales and the previously mentioned support of the DVD.
    - Sales are on par with what was expected based on TFTM07 sales
    - Continue to focus on Transformers as a "global mega brand", which I think we all knew. ;)
    - No comment on specific % contribution of TF to overall sales and revenue. In my experience this is not unusual.
    - TF ship to stores is bigger than that in 2007 for TFTM07
    - POS (sales) up "significantly" compared to 2007 & 2008
    - This was not specific to TF, but no price increases planned this year due to stabilization in commodity prices. Considering a small increase in 2010. Again remember that this is not for sure, nor is it specific to TFs. That being said, I'm sure they'll be posts here in a day or two complaining about certain price hikes on TFs next year. :)

I agree. Just double checked it as well. That was based off of the first four weeks of sales and was described as "exceptional".

Definitely the point that caught my eye; hopefully Hasbro's new TV channel will be chock-full of big stompy robot goodness. And equally, not full of utter crap.* :thumb

*Disclaimer: this poster is more than aware that certain elements of the fanbase will find no discernable difference whatsoever between particular aspects of both fields. :p

Eeeenteresting, hope they at the very least say something about this at sdcc now that the movies out they should be a little more talkative.

This is great news now. However, next year when Hasbro doesn't have a movie line, they will post sales not matching this year, upsetting investors and causing all sorts of fun cutbacks.

Investors invest looking towards future sales, not based on current results -- in theory. Financial analysts will certainly price in the value of movie vs. not when deciding how much they're willing to pay for Hasbro's stock.

In addition, whoever it was on the conference call (I forgot already) specifically mentioned how sales in 2008 were strong based on the momentum of TFTM07. They expect that to continue in 2010 based off of ROTF and the unspecified television program.

Also, added more info to the original post...

In theory, that is how it should work. Unfortunately all companies raise their goals from year to year regardless. So, investors may know better, and Hasbro might KNOW better, but they will still fuss when they don't have the momentum of the year before despite logical reasons why.
