It appears the biggest problem was the devaluation of the dollar vs. foreign currency.

The loss isn't as bad as last year, if stock compensation is disregarded.

I blame Star Wars too. All that Ep3 crap sat on the shelf going nowhere around here. Lucas got his cut regardless if any of it sold or not. Somewhere they're melting down all the leftover EP3 ObiWan with real beard action to make more useless StarWars toys. Hopefully with all the cool TF stuff that's coming out things will turn around for Hasbro. All the Cybertron stuff that's not moving isn't helping either.

I blame their distribution methods. The constant flocks of shelf warmers across all brands ... they don't properly anticipate demand of specific toys, they look at everything by "classes"

Collectors and kids alike have $ ready to spend ... but we have nothing to buy.

Glad I quit collecting SW YEARS ago. One can only have so many Han Solos or Darth Vaders with different friggin poses in every line. "New Sitting in the Cantina Han Solo!" or "New Darth Vader pointing at Luke!"
    :rolleyes2
    Don't get me started.

    Another good reason.

I do believe Hasbro lost their innovative touch. They've decided to whore specific characters inorder to make up money. Didn't we see a limited Xmas edition Vader that was red?

When the cash cow dries up, they're left without any good ideas and a bunch of ruined franchise players.

Their view these days is proably that TFs are propping up Star Wars sales.

There's no great suprises on the SW thing. Hasbro know pretty well that they can only do so much to market a product they don't have 100% control over. If the SW TV programme that Lucas is threatning happens we'll see more of the same stuff.

Well next year should be good for them at least- full out movies with liscenced stuff all over the place. Spidey is always a good seller, and they're ramping up TFs already. I wonder if that'll top RotS profits.

I blame Wal-Mart for stocking a shit load of shelf warmers and their bloody computer that says if we have 6 Mudflaps on our shelf we can't order anything new. Same goes for old SW stock.

Yeah, Hasbro do presumably get some form of cash flow from Hasbro UK, so I'd blame them, because they seem to be in real, genuine trouble this year.

I'm placing the blame on VideoNow, Star Wars, and I'm sure that rapscallion Twin Twist is involved somehow.

I think I'll jump on the blame bandwagon...

I blame the collector's who don't buy stuff just to get it off the shelf so new figures can come into the store. :D

Seriously, company profit margins yo-yo every year. And we're only talking about the first quarter... so, things can improve or not... who knows. But with all the really cool crap coming out over the course of the next year or so... things should get better for them.

Hey, growth in Transformers and Magic? Even though the company did lose money, my favorite Hasbro brands are as strong as ever! :)

This surprised me, but not in the way you'd think. Hasbro is 2nd behind Mattel? Wow. I always assumed Hasbro was top dog, hence how they have enough money to buy all them licenses.

Also surprising is how they always forget how licensed film product sales generally taper off after the films are off the cinema. Like Episode 1. Then Episode 2. Then Episode 3.

Hasbro UK? Haha! Don't get me started.

I looked at an open pack of Magic cards the other day and didn't even know what most of them did. Where is my Pygmy Allosaurus that can be Enchanted with Stormbind? I am so old :(
