The problem is, Hasbro pretty much pulled a "fire and forget" on the movies. They handed them to Paramount, who handed them to Bay, and just let him run amok. It worked for a surprisingly long time, but once AOE started showing signs of wavering, Goldner really should've had somebody somewhere step in and course-correct. They didn't, and TLK happened, and while like you said nothing really bad has happened yet besides the film flopping (which TBH, is more Paramount's problem than Hasbro's at the moment) I feel like they really need more corporate meddling. Someone to step up and say "Okay, you've completely lost sight of what audiences today want, fix it."

It's why I'm cautiously optimistic about the Bumblebee movie, because it actually seems (from what little we've heard of it) that there's a legitimate attempt to do just that. Adjust to what audiences want to see, more character-focused films with "heart." The days of brainless blockbuster dreck putting asses in seats is over, but nobody told Hasbro/Paramount/Bay et al.
