Has collecting lost some of that addiction for you over the holidays?

    Hey all,

Haven't really been posting as much as usual and I feel like plastic crack headedness really has declined for me so far this year. I really cannot pin point it.

Over the holiday I got some new shelves, and I really did not like how the shelf looked, I kinda started running out of room in my room to put stuff out. I personally like to display my whole collection, so I have really been having a hard time getting into purchasing more.

In addition, filling my G1 collection, even season 1 has been pretty frustrating at times. So I think that bought it down a bit as well.

I am wondering if this is just a normal progression. I have been collecting for about 15 months now, and I wonder if this is just the time to slow down. It is good for the wallet so far. But still kinda weird that I don't have that same drive to get new things.

Anyone else have this? Do you think it is cause there is really nothing new out? Is this just the normal progression?

It seems to be normal for this time of year. At least for me it is. Waiting for new stuff to come out and be announced while having gotten the toys i wanted from the previous year. When new stuff starts coming out again my addiction kicks back up to full force. When the PRime voyagers and Entertainment pack come out i will be out checking tru regularly again.

It's probably that time in collecting rather than the holiday season.

At a point you reach a stage where you have 90 percent of what you want, the other 10 is tough to get and there's nothing out to get your attention.

Besides Shockwave from DOTM, I haven't bought a mainline transformer since rotf. I'm just waiting for Prime figures.

I've had on/off years since 2004 bud. Some years are crazy hot with stuff where you feel overwhelmed and can't keep up, and others you get bored waiting for the next thing to come around.

Just enjoy the down time for what it is. If you're still interested in TF's when it picks back up, you're gonna be crazy busy again. Just keep tabs on the boards so you don't miss out on something you like (I missed out on the entire universe 2.0 line at retail :lol  ), cause it sucks playing the catch up game.

Yeah, I think it is that 90% area where I have what I want and I am either unwilling to pay the extra high price to get the other 10% or I cannot find it. I actually look at this as a plus, since I save money and at the same time come across that 10% at a much lower cost. Less plastic crackheadedness leads to less impulse overpaying.

G1 is the the problem I think. It is very discouraging to hunt G1. You cannot find it, and when you do, it usually has a lot of wear. All the good ones are either remarkably over priced or gone if you didn't see it quick enough. So I get discouraged and then skip looking for stuff out of frustration. Even though, I have lucked out with sellers on here. It's just there aren't enough G1 sellers and EBay is cRaZy!

I do know I will be excited once the MP figures do come out. Looking forward to those. From either Has/Tak or 3rd Party.

Classics at this point is pretty tapped out. Unless they go with Combiners, there are very few original series figures left to get after the 3rd party releases.

As for the Prime figures, I am torn. I like them, but I will not have any place to display them. So not sure what I am going to do about that line. Not sure if I will buy it if they will just sit in a box in the basement. Not sure if I can be that type of collector.

Just a matter of having all the stuff I want that's immediately available, really. Calm before the storm and all that.

Besides, lulls like this are what eBay's made for.

There's currently nothing out that I want to collect and nothing besides the Prime line, movie wheeljack soundwave and HA soundwave have been confirmed for release, so if I buy a tf in store now, it would be an impulse buy rather than what I want.

Nah, dumping all my Henkei figures for G1's has really reignited my passion for collecting.

However, once I have my season 1 and some of season 2 cast; I'm done with the G1's and sticking to MP TF's only.

To be honest I've lost interest in collecting.

My last purchase was DOTM Shockwave (sometime in july).

Megatron is the only Prime figure I'm interested in.

I'll wait to see the Voyager.

Then decide what size class I'll bite the bullet on.

The only other figure I've been considering is Generations Sky Shadow.

Though I already have Generations Thunderwing.

And space for my Classics is at a minimum.

Most of my money has been going towards DC toys.

Legacy Catman and wave 20 Green Arrow are last on my list.

After that I think I'm done.

For how long is anyones guess.

I think when you've been in the habit for 27 years, you realise there are peaks and dips in collecting, due to personal funds, availability or just an undefinable apathy. But it's in my blood.

Don't worry, I think most collectors go through this from time to time.

It goes up and down for me. Right now the only things I want are either pre-ordered, not yet up for pre-order, too expensive to justify, or simply not made yet.
There are a lot of things I'm looking forward to though. Like FoC toys, MMC's future products, rumored FP Menasor, Hegemon by what's-their-face, possible encore dinobots etc. etc.

I'm in a lull at the moment, with the exception of wanting to go back and purchasing a few things I missed out on - while I look forward to the Prime figures, I'm not as hyped as many people are.

My main line is the movieverse, but I've been disappointed in a few DOTM figures and I can't really say I'm too excited about the upcoming Soundwaves or that.

The only thing I'm really excited about right now is the IGear weapons specialist...of course. ;)

It also depends on the month, my financial situation, etc.... I go through ups and downs. Some months I collect like crazy, others I might buy one figure.

I still have the same buying frequency, but, now I handle it a lot more business-like, and don't have the excitement that I once did towards it.

It used to be This oooo and ahhhhhh of excitement of new figures. Waiting for the figure to come. Etc. etc.

Now, it's pretty much order a figure. Put the Tracking number into my Excel document and note the ship date. Clear off a spot on my shelf with a pose envisoned. Leave a standardized note on my door the day that it's supposed to come. Come home. Get toy at door. unbox. Photos/Reviews. to the Shelf. Next.

It's such a business mindset now, and I don't even have as much of an attachment to these things now.

It's a burn out. I've been collecting for over 15 years straight, no breaks in between, and I've rode the highs and lows of this hobby.

You came in and went on a collecting blitz, heightened if you got in to 3rd party stuff. Now you hit a lull, there isn't much out there to buy and thats when that feeling takes you.

Personally for me, I was almost out completely during the movie/UT times. I found myself collecting just to collect and it wasn't filling me with any feelings of joy. I rode this for a while until 3rd party started coming out and TF cartoons returned home to America (Animated).

Now I am riding a high like never before and totally look forward to 3rd party stuff, Prime toys (love em and the show), Takara's return to Encore, the New MP stuff and whatever that stuff is that is being hinted about for 2014ish.

You may drop out completely depending on if you are burnt out or just done with it completely. But these lulls in passion for collecting happen, like with all loves, you fall in and out and back in again.

Well, after turning 13, I just feel wierd collecting toys. Although those prime figures just look too amazing to pass up. Transformers in a way grew smaller and bigger at the same time for me. By this I mean I started buying less toys, but started to get more interested in some toys like city commander (although I probably will never afford one). It was just awkward when all my friends who are relatively popular asked me what I got for Christmas. lol
Still, I did do my public speaking speech on transformers and people seemed to like it. I'd like to get one of my top wants right now and take a break from tfs for a while. It is still fun to mess around with the toys, as my friends do that to. :lol
Hopefully I can someone to trade a classics magnus for my ha barricade, and I can try to find a city commander later.
I would like a battle tanker, or protector armor, but I just dont want to spend around a hundred bucks for an upgrade set for figures that only costed around 10 bucks. MAybe I can do enough chores to get that kind of money lol! :)
