Doctor Who Movie Coming From Harry Potter Director David Yates - CinemaBlend.com
Is he nuts?
This is the one franchise that if you mess with it, there will be hell to pay.
I've never been big on Doctor Who, but even i think this is ludicrous.
I am in no way a hardcore Dr Who fan, I just watch it and enjoy it and that's it. But this is one of the most STUPID ideas I have ever heard.
It'll be like the old Peter Cushing movies were reboots of the main series - except probably with none of the charm of those old movies.
Or, to quote Omnius, "please let this get lost in development hell".
before we hit the panic button, MAYBE this could tell the time before the Doctor stole the TARDIS.
I'll be fine with this if they cast Samuel Jackson as the Doctor.
Even though I have had absolutely no interest in Dr. Who, the fact that David Yates is involved, and that they'll be starting "from scratch", might actually mean I'll check it out when it's released...maybe.
Still, I'm not exactly confident that even Yates starting "from scratch" will make Dr. Who at all interesting to me (nothing has so far).
I want to watch Doctor Who. I can't find it on YouTube and have no interest in paying money just to see if I like the show. The fact that I don't know where to jump in just adds to the frustration.
I'd love to see a fresh start that won't require a knowledge of the past couple of decades.
However, I'm look at this from the standpoint of the average moviegoer. If they made something that directly tied into the show (which I know nothing about), I'd have no interest whatsoever as of now.
Already talking about this in the Doctor who thread.
Start with the 9th (Christopher Eccleston) or 10th Doctor (David Tennant), though I will warn you the 9th Doctor stuff is pretty cheesy up until near the end of the season.
The 10th Doctor stories pick up dramatically in quality.
The 11th Doctor, while I love the stories, I find Matt Smith a little hard to accept as The Doctor after what a great job David Tennant did as the 10th.
Will they call it "Daleks on a Tardis"
No. Just no.
Although I will admit, the image of the Doctor yelling "I've had it with these motherf***ing Daleks on this motherf***ing Tardis!" fills me with joy.
But no Americans playing the Doctor please. He's f***ing British, thank you
This is not good.
At least it being a reboot means it won't ruin the series.
I don't like Yates' tone. The way he's talking makes me think that the Doctor is going to be a laser-toting space cowboy who flies around in the space battleship T.A.R.D.I.S (Totally Awesome Really Destructive Interstellar Starship) baysplosioning the living crap out of anything that moves.
I thought he was an alien from Gallifrey, capable of adopting different forms.
Maybe he'll finally be ginger.
I agree with your knee-jerk reaction.
But then the old boxy Tardis just isn't realistic. And it needs a flame paint job.
I bet the term 'DWINO' has already been coined over at the official DW boards.
I kneeeew somebody would say that, but The Doctor is such a quintessentially British character, having him be any other nationality would just be......wrong. I don't mind a foreign actor playing him, as long as it's with a British accent, Johnny Depp for example, but no foreign accent
Separate names with a comma.
