I did not see one made yet, and I just got back from the midnite showing, with 4 sold out screens, so I figured I would give first impressions

First words to anyone interested in this: READ THE DAMN BOOKS :)

Now, do not get me wrong, I completely understand for a book this size, a lot of cuts had to be made, but they fundamentally changed some of the character's personalities as well as their actions in the book, which really surprised me. They left certain elements out of the previous movies, like Elf Rights aka SPEW, but they left Kreacher (Sirius Black's house elf) in the movie, and gave him no point, but in the book, he was a spy for Voldemort

The movie seemed drawn out at times, and the reactions in the crowd seemed to reflect boredom at times. The final battle seemed forced after all the boredom, and some of it was radically changed from the book. The big death scene did not really move any of the audience, and once over, barely any applause, unlike the 4 TF showings I went to, that had applause (not mine alone) every time at the end

Overall, the movie was decent, and probably one of the best sequels so far this summer, and if you are following the story via movie, go see it. I enjoyed it, but the books are definitely better for the overall effect. IMHO though, it is a shame that it will take business away from Transformers for a while, as Transformers as a whole gave a better movie going experience.

I too went to a midnight showing. The crowd in my theater was a lot more pumped than yours, it seems. My only complaint was the shrieking fangirls in the seats behind me. I damn near turned around and killed them.

If I remember the book correctly the only major character to die is Sirius Black.

I actually like the way this was handled in the movie better than in the book. I thought it had much more of an impact than simply "fall into archway" = "dead".

I do agree that Kreacher's appearance was pointless in the movie without the payoff at the end. Cho was very underused, too. Didn't like that they made her the snitch, but at least they indicated that Umbridge got her hands on genuine Veritaserum to make her so.

Luna and Umbridge were excellently portrayed -- just spot-on.

I wish they had made it a bit longer to work in the bits about Ron & Hermione being Prefects and/or Ron playing Quidditch. Here's hoping for a ~3-hour DVD extended version.

Book sucked, movie sucked worse. The sixth book was awesome, so I hope that movie's worthwhile.

Wasn't it Hermione? Ah, crap. Book seven.

Just so you know, I'm going to kill you. I'm booking flights right now.
(Not really, cause I know the book isn't even out yet)
    BTW: Snape kills Dumbledore!

Just saw it. Never read any of the books. Loved it, just like I loved the other films. But they really needed more exposition on various characters. And did Siruis black die from the woman saying abracadabra, or was it something to do with the arch?...

If I'm remembering the book he fell into some sort of portal of instant death.

Ah right cheers, becuase that was entirely glossed over, he was hit, turned, fell into it and dissapeared into it. Though it was obvious he was dead, the reason certainly wasn't...

Maybe I'm not remembering it right cause the abracadabra thing is meant to be an instant death attack as well. According to Wiki though, the cause of death is definitely the arch thingimajig.

According to the previous book, the actual spell is "Avada Kedavra" which (roughly) translated means "Let the thing be destroyed."
