Where do you guys go to find the more obscure stuff (besides e-bay)? I just got into collecting about 6 months ago, and I'm trying to rebuild my collection I had as a kid. I've been looking for a particular targetmaster partner for a month now, and I can't seem to find him anywhere.

Please, oh learned ones, what are your secrets?

And patience. Sometimes it takes long time to come across certain figure/parts. Good luck with your hunt :)

Hard to find? Or expensive? These are different things. Sometimes I'll go to a show and you'll see quite a few expensive "rare" items, but then little things like Legends Rodimus will be a real bitch.
Botcon / Auto Assembly are great places for bargains, but only during the last half hour of the last day.
Junkion exchange is very good too.

I wanted a G1 Soundwave for a while. Didn't want to pay a huge price for him. So I waited for a good price to come on the Junkion Exchange. Got a TRU Reissue for a good price.

The Junkion + Patience = Good Results :)

    Ebay:
I wanted a Classics Rodimus for some time, but waited till after the armor upgrade was announced. that sent prices soaring.
but i managed to get a deal and things worked out.

if i can just get a samaritan to sell me a MIB G1 Overlord for less than $65 on eBay....
i can CLEP a full MBA at any college, right?

Don't forget flea markets, garage sales, and Craig's List! :)  There are also a bunch of on-line stores that sell vintage stuff, such as this one run by one of our members:

Robotic Planet, Your Action Figure Armory

And don't forget comic stores and the like. Above all, like other said: be patient. Good luck!

You can negotiate prices with them and their stock updates regularly. Only downfall is that you don't have pics of the actual items, just a stock photo. Nonetheless, they'll send you pics if you want and the descriptions are very accurate. If it says NEAR MINT that's exactly what you'll get.

    Flea markets
    Thrift/antique stores
    Yard/garage sales
    Estate sales
Retail stores in small, out of the way towns. ALWAYS check the clearance section.

    Hope it can help!:thumbs2:

junkion exchange is great in more ways than one, last summer i posted that i wanted the robotmasters skywarp/thundercracker pack.well i forgot all about it,checked all the other options, even ebay was dry,2 or 3 months later i recieved a pm from a board member saying he had one,and at a pretty good price too,so if you do post in the wanted section, and dont hear anything instantly, dont get discouraged.

Good luck on your search. It may be tough going at times, but persistance is the key to success.

I started collecting back in the 90s and you could find Transformers at any flea market you went to. These days it's a lot tougher and there's so much more competition - Most of it from people who just want to make a buck on Ebay. But there's also a lot more in the way of resources to help you.

The most important part is to try and enjoy the hunt.
