He's the man that brought you the iPod. He's the man that brought you the iPhone. And now, he's the birthday man. Happy birthday Steve, thank you for changing the world we live in.

24th February was his birthday. This thread is 1 day late.

I had no idea that me and Steve Jobs shared the same birthday (not the same year).

    [miserable git]

Was he that important that we need to commemorate his birth even after he's dead? Yeah, he was a clever chap - but let's save our good wishes for the living, eh? Gods only know they need 'em more than him right now.

I really don't get the whole idea of celebrating the birthdays of dead people either ("if he was still alive, he'd be 168 years old!"), but I don't mind so much when it's someone like Steve Jobs who actually contributed something important to the world. I mean, people are still commemorating the post-mortem 'birthdays' of guys like Elvis or Michael Jackson, both of whom did nothing to better the planet.

Also MLK Jr Day and Victoria Day. Of course, unlike Christmas, those two fall on the actual known date of the person's birth and aren't just educated guesses.

I wouldn't say he didn't care about us. He's done more for the human race than anyone we'll ever know or meet combined. Rich people give ridiculous sums of money to charity every year. Steve Jobs' contemporaries like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet donate BILLIONS of dollars to charity yearly. Billions. Most of us won't even make 1 million in our entire lifetime. I think we owe a lot to people like Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet, etc.

    Happy Birthday Steve Jobs

I don't know about United Way, but that doesn't argue against some of the richet human beings in the U.S. also being the biggest philanthropists of our time. Calling someone "uncaring" for being successful is the exact same rhetoric that OWS spreads. Steve Jobs may have been a brutally aggressive man, but he's left a legacy that can't be laughed away. Most of us only take during our lives, and do very little to give back (myself included).
