This is gonna be my second serious attempt at repainting. (The first being my Animated Arcee) This time, I am going to attempt to Repaint and Detail Human Alliance Roadbuster.

Sadly, it's gonna be done by hand as i can't afford any other medium. :p

I'm in no real rush to get this done, because I want this to turn out as close as I can possibly get to the Movie Likeness as possible.

I really hope you guys like this.

What i plan on doing is:

*Repainting the entire vehicle, to better match the real car.
    *Adding more realistic Decals.
    *Repainting the number 88 (if i can't find stickers/decals)
*Repainting all the gray plastic pieces in alt and robot modes and touching up the hands, feet torso and lower legs, the face helmet, rocket launchers.

And if you have pointers I'll take any and all help. :)

I will update this thread as often as I can.

(Edit: 5-27-11 I just found every sponsor logo for the alt mode (thanks to see photos of Dale's AMP Race Car) now to figure a way to make decals out of them *sigh*)

(Edit: 5-28-11 I touched up some of the drab gray plastic on the bot mode, the chainsaw blades, the hands, the grills on the shoulders, the feet, the face, the hat.*)

(Edit: 5-28-11 I used a flat black and painted the inside rocket launchers, inside the doors, safety net on doors, rocket engine and also on the back of the car (I'll be putting another coat tomorrow). I put another coat of gunmetal on front engine, another coat of gunmetal on armor around doors. I tried to start on the white, but messed up and so I'll have to redo that.*)

Wrong, I did start on it already hence the attachments.

So far I've painted many parts on the car Gunmetal and a flat black Base Coat Including the rims, the backs of the rocket launchers, the sides of the doors, and also painted the engine and the 3 strips on the windshield and the 2 guns in the fenders on the hood.

as I said I'll be taking my time with this project.

anybody have any advice on what paints to buy?

Also, what's the best way to paint over the green plastic and coating with white? I've tried painting white over dark plastic before and it somehow can still be seen through the white paint. :(

I don't know the figure.. but is the plastic green color molded?
if not you could best remove the paint first...
and if you look at my Defensor you'll see the Barricade is pretty white :D
I also used brush, but enamel paint flow better and require less coating...
even so I still needed 2 coats ;)

Cool! Can you remove the quarter panels above the front tires? I think that would help with the movie look.

Wow, this will be very fun.
Are you really willing to match the car? That's going to be very entertaining to watch. I especially would like to see the hood sliced to create the openings of all those weapons/engine pieces.

Eeek I'm not really a kitbasher. I am just taking a crack at repainting him for now. :)  maybe if I find another Roadbuster I'll try that. :)

I'm also thinking about putting a ball joint on the fenders so I can position them to be more flush with the hood (like in the actual photo of the car) I'd also like to cut the gun barrels off the lights and replace them with guns to better match the guns on the movie car as well. :)

Actually for decals, if you can find a Dale Jr remote control car you can remove the stickers depending on the type of RC Dale Jr car you have.

Same. I'm also focusing on the Alt mode primarily. This is the only HA figure I have ever loved enough to want to repaint. It's such a beautiful toy, such a vast amount of detail all over it. it really needs to be brought out.

I'm also doing subtle things to the bot mode such as painting over the drab plain gray plastic using chrome and then dabs of gunmetal. I'm not the best painter out there by far, but I'm going to give this figure alot of love, because he deserves no less than my best. :)

I'm sure folks like F_R and Sabrina will do far better bashes with it. but I'm just doing this for my own gratification because I really want this guy to pop on my shelf. :)

Speaking of botmode repainting, here's what I got done so far. yes it's a slow proccess as I'm focusing right now on just repainting the plain looking grey parts. I need to buy some white paint and some different brushes for those really tiny details. :)

Can't wait to see this finished, looks really hard to paint with all of that detail.

I think on a positive note it may be easier because there's not alot of flat surfaces so I won't have to worry to much about brush strokes. part of my biggest issue has always been my paints are too thick or the whole brush strokes thing.
