I have had quite a few different hairstyles in my day and out of laziness and a want for something different, have decided to grow my hair out. I have had everything from almost shaved head to mohawk to regular man hair... but now long hair. Right now it is at 'emo' length (for those of you that know the term). I was pretty much prompted to try it by Heath Ledger's Joker.

This mostly goes out to anyone with long hair...

How do I take care of it?

Are there special concerns I should be aware of?

Will it look good or awful?

Here is how long my hair normally was:

Does this count as "long hair" ?

I use whatever on it to be honest. Just shampoo and conditioner twice a week. Otherwise it gets crazy frizzy.

    That isn't emo hair...
    Longer fringe!
    I love emo hair...

For long hair, shampoo regularly and thoroughly, it'll get greasy fast.
I think your current hair is better suited to you then Ledger hair.

I used to have really long hair in my metal head days, then I cut it. I grew it back in my hippie days, then cut it. I am currently growing it out again. Shampoo and conditioner works fine, but I don't comb or brush. I have thick hair, and brushing it makes it look girly. My current hair is Joker long.

I used to have my hair long when I was a kid. Then I had the mullet back in the 80's and 90's.

My hair is longer than it's ever been, on account of getting out of the Guard a few weeks back. I'm gonna grow it out until I go back full-time just for the helluva it.

But long hair to me is probably kinda normal to most folks. I'm just so used to it being damn near shaved.

Well, I'm growing out my hair currently. My goal is to grow it out long enough to put it in a ponytail, i'll probably be there by this time next year (It is down to the start of my back).

Used to have long hair for around 4 years. I washed it almost daily because of how oily and\or curly it'd get, but that was just my hair.

And by long I mean just like Scrappy, maybe a tad shorter.

Didn't really like it in the end, I always had it slicked back and tied in the last year and on them windy days it got very bad very fast, opted for shorter hair later on.

You really have to wonder though, almost everybody comments on how good they look after you cut them.

    :lol

I would like to try it sometime, but my hair gets messy and curls up a bit when it gets past my neck, so I would need to take care of that.

*sigh* I miss my long hair...sadly it receded too much to be kept.

You've yet to get to the testing bit when it reaches a length just long enough for every style to look utterly crap no matter what you do with it. If you can survive past that you're fine.

    It'll be warm in summer...

If you can stomach the lack of manliness - long hair generally looks better if you keep getting the split ends trimmed by the barber. Always feels a bit girly getting it done IMO:)

I had that problem to. Just had to deal with it until it got long enough to weigh itself down.

The only bad things are that they can bother your eyes and annoying if you don't shampoo and all that stuff

The only downside of growing my hair out is the constant Bruce Lee remarks.

    Point.

What if you got "NOT BRUCE LEE" embroidered or bedazzled across the back?
