Because quite simply its the best Bemania game so far, beating out my Bongo's.

For those not knowing, the game's controller is a big guitar, which you play as a bands lead guitar. 2 player mode is awesome too.

I'll be more specific later. I just woke up and need to go. Bah.

I thought the 2 player mode blew goats. Single player is great, but it's still no Samba de Amigo :(

It's not technically a Bemani game, you know, not being from Konami and all.

But they stole the whole concept, hook line and sinker, from them, so I think you can forgive peoples mistakes.

Strange how 7 years earilier Konamis effort sunk without a trace only to have it resurrected by some upstart company.

Is there going to be a part in Bass guitar mode where you have to flip the burgers on your day job in GH2?

I've been seeing GH in Best Buys and Targets around me in SoCal. If you check Sunday ads, they do show up in the ads and at least for that week are in stock at those stores. If not, then Gamestops/EB Games also have them from time to time.

So psyched about GH2. There's a fun wishlist of songs here:

I'd like to think Samba Di Amigo was better than Guitar Hero, but because Sega only made maybe 10 for the UK I never got to play it. :(

I thought the 2 player mode was pretty cool, but what can you do with a 2 player bemania game? Aside from each players notes complementing each other (Like Donkey Konga with 4 bongos).

GH2? I still have to unlock all the songs!

Good to see the love for Samba De Amigo here too. I've still got my whole DC collection, including an official Samba Maracas set and the 3rd party light-up maracas set. Now if only there were some good homebrews that would make use of the Samba maracas...

Don't feel too sorry for Konami -- they not only dropped the ball, they GAVE it to a developer they still work with!

A while ago, some reps from Konami and Wavegroup gave a talk at my school. Wavegroup is the company that did the soundalikes for the Karaoke Revolution series, and Guitar Hero.

Konami was there to demo Beatmania and answer questions, so I asked them point blank: with the success of Guitar Hero, why did they never think to bring over Guitar Freaks? I mean, it's a friggin no-brainer.

Everyone on stage started squirming and looking at each other. The guys with Wavegroup said that they really couldn't comment.

And they couldn't -- for good reason.

See, it's not a coincidence that the same company did music for Karaoke Revolution and Guitar Hero -- the same DEVELOPER worked on those games too: Harmonix, who also did Frequency and Amplitude.

Karaoke Revolution is published by Konami. Guitar Hero isn't, for obvious reasons.

The marketing guy from Konami spoke up at this point, and said something to the effect that he had suggested bringing Guitar Freaks over to Konami Japan on several occasions, but that there had been reluctance each time to do it. Apparently, Konami are EXTREMELY conservative about which games they bring over. The marketing guy was hopeful that, since Beatmania was being brought over, maybe Guitar Freaks would follow.

Fast forward to the present -- with Harmonix and Red Octane announcing a sequel, Beatmania warming shelves everywhere, and Guitar Freaks STILL a conspicuous no-show.

I mean really -- how far up your ass does your head have to be, to not notice that one of your DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS is mocking up a GUITAR GAME in their spare time, and doing very well at it? Think that might be a sign that, oh, a certain segment of people might actually want to PLAY a guitar game? Oh, if ONLY we had a ready-made guitar game in our arsenal to compete with them -- why, we could nip this thing in the bud!

    ...

So yeah. The next time you see someone from Konami Japan, point and laugh at them. Because they're THAT DUMB.

    -XCN-

P.S. On second thought, looking at those Guitar Freaks 3rd Mix screens ... yeah. Maybe it would've needed a little work.
