Apparently denied the chance to make Hellboy 3, Del Toro instead settles on an Abe Sapien origin movie. Spoiler ok so that's not ACTUALLY what the movie's about but damned if it doesn't look that way from the start...
This is such a weird trailer. At first I thought it was a Bioshock movie trailer, but then it wasn't. Then when they said they took the creature from the Amazon I was thinking it was the Creature from the Black Lagoon remake. Then it ends up being something different. It does look interesting though.
I'm pretty sure this is just Del Toro's ideal interpretation of a fish man, its just his aesthetics he likes to use. We still have yet to see its facial features properly.
I'll give anything Del Toro directs a shot. I'm intrigued by the trailer. I can certainly say I haven't seen anything like this in 2017. Hell, the Planet of the Apes movies even show that you can still make an interesting movie with most of the dialogue in sign language.
I think this looks great. I like the actress, I like the fish guy, I like the cinematography and the subtle imagery at the end with the wallpaper barely visible in the water. I'm a big fan of movies about garish, inhuman monsters finding friendship among normal people. Perhaps I project myself into them hoping that one day I'll make a friend who doesn't mind the fact that I, too, swim in my own filth and eat too many hard boiled eggs.
This looks stellar, don’t get me wrong, but I really wish it was just a new Creature from the Black Lagoon and Del Toro was in charge of the Dark Universe films instead of Kurtzman. Imagine a world where we had a cinematic Universal Monsters universe with Del Toro serving as the Feige equivalent producing films with an unparalleled horror aesthetic and strong emotional core. Ughhhh.
That's so strange if this is not an Abe Sapien movie... but I'll still give it a try. It looks like it will be a unique take on horror/sci fi.
Well this is as close as we'll get to having a new Creature from the Black Lagoon movie but in a good way.
Ok I know everyone made the Abe Sapien joke, but if this is for real a sneak prequel to the more comic based Hellboy reboot, I will lose my fanboy mind. Well now you made me sad we will never get this. And it'd be so perfect too. Fuck.
Wow, this looks fantastic. Abe Sapien jokes aside, this film definitely as a great noir Bioshock look and feel to it, which I love. Definitely interested in this one!
