So I went to the grocery store friday and just got a few things, pasta, milk, two frozen sandwiches, and some odds and ends and what is usually a 30-40 dollar grocery bill was 70 dollars this week. Is it just me or are grocery prices really climbing these days?

Yes, they are. Blame oil prices.

Did you check the receipt to see if they screwed up anywhere? Groceries for my family (4) ends up being about $120 a week...

There is a good reason behind this and it's political so let's just say that there is a labor shortage.

Please keep the politics off of this though. I know it will be hard but if it becomes political we will have to close it.

No, but I went through self-checkout so if anything I screwed myself....that'd be pretty funny actually if I did.

Weather, labor, oil, and a rising minimum wage. Oh, and Ethonal. Corn's getting pricey these days.

The price of wheat has recently gone up a lot, and so anything containing wheat or wheat products (ie flour) has gone up as a result. Some stuff at my local grocery store went up 30-90 cents per package

I got two packs while flying on southwest last weekend, I felt privileged. I actually had a question about this. I thought they werent allowed to give out peanuts due to various allergies anymore. I'm not too familiar with peanut allergies but I thought I heard of people getting sick by smelling the aroma before.

    Ebay:
That's the one thing I always notice first. Last time I picked up a gallon of milk, it was about $4.30 and I was just floored as it scanned. And I thought $3.50 was bad before.

Ah but to put in perspective, milk for some reason has always been more expensive than gas. And with the average of gas hovering around $3.00 it was inevitable that milk prices would go up as well.

Nobody's mentioned the crackdown on cheap, delicious immigrant labor as a factor.

I did. More hinted at it than anything. But I also had to set the political bar though. :(

I would love to be able to discuss it but can't.

I'm turning you into your wife for weak economics. :D

For the OP, you buy store brand? I used to shop on Army bases for food to get the discounts, but they don't carry store brands, and now the generics are just as cheap if not more so. It all tastes the same to me.

Plus frozen pizzas, depending on the brand, can get stupidly expensive.
