Anyone think he will ever be a "Prime"? You know, will he ever be given the matrix or made leader of the whole autobot side? I know he has proven to be a good leader in the cartoons and comics. Hell if Magnus was given the matrix and Rodimus was leader for some time, why not Grimlock?

    Thoughts?

GrimLock is a fighter and while that's a key part in being an Autobot leader a leader also needs much much more in the ways of people skills and sadly Grimlock cartoon or comic does not have these quality's

No... Grimlock is just too out of control to be Prime.

He was made leader in Marvel Comics during Optimus' temporary death. He was a jerk and Blaster tried to usurp him.

I've always said if the transformers universe were the marvel universe then the dinobots are the X-men.

Grimlock is like Wolverine. he's too bad ass to be the leader, even if he's more qualified than some of the bots who have been in charge. I think he knows he's not cut out for it anyway. He belongs in the field kicking ass, not worrying about the entire team.

Has there ever been a proper Grimlock / Megatron fight?

Yup. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Grimlock become Autobot leader again, when Prime died (again) in the last dozen or so issues? Then Prowl took the leadership position?

Grimlock and Prowl sort of joint led the Autobots, or Prowl led with Grimlock at his side.

Personally, I've always felt that Grimlock would be an excellent general, and a field commander with no equal, but as the overall commander? Probably too much emphasis on fighting and physical strength. He's way too narrow in his skillset to be the flexible dynamic character that a true Autobot commander needs to be.

Second in command, though, is an ideal role for him, especially if the role ends up being leading charges and training the team. I'm thinking more like the comic version, though, who was intelligent beneath that hard shell.

It would be cool, just to see more of him in a show. Though I'd be happy enough if he was given more screen time in a modern show without needing to become leader to do so. A show centered around the Dinobots themselves would be perfect, but probably never going to happen.

Grimlock's fine as leader of the Dinobots, but to be Prime is asking for big trouble. That, and only his Dinobots would follow him.

I could see it, but it wouldn't be for long and he wouldn't be that great at it. He'd probably just give it up not wanting to deal with the extra BS that comes with being overall leader. Like everybody said, Grimlock fights, he doesn't do dipolomacy or too many other overall leadership jobs.
