well i am working on grimlock not doing much right now just fixed that chest gap. i am icluding a pictorial how to below the pics are in order. to do it my way you have to disassemble the head and knock out the jaw pin but it is well worth it because my mod makes it part of the transformation rather than a removable plate. hope my pics help i dont have time right now to do a proper how to ,sorry :)

Traced [the] chest cavity with paper:

Cut pieces out of styrene overlay parts are thinner gauge:

    test fitted cut styrene

fitted collar pieces to main piece with small strip of styrene bending to match angle of collar to chest

took the head apart to install pivot bar make pivot bar aprox 2.5mm maybe 2.8 unsure

then glue bar to chest piece you made -be careful not to get glue on your figure. ;)

bot mode with new piece also it can be layed towards the back of the head.

and viola chest gap is gone. i still need to add lower tabs and clean up the bottom edge but hopefully you get the idea. on mine i want the red band to go around the front of the chest. to be anime correct omit large overlay piece. also remeber when looking at this i have not sanded it or added any putty to blend it together.

    6/13/08 update
this is something you can do to make the pin not so loose and to keep the chest plate flush with the sides of the chest and neck. i used apoxy sculpt to do this but you can use any type of putty that gets hard. to make the hole i wetted the post and stuck it in the putty before it cured. then leveled the top off. after the putty cured i reemed ot the hole with a dremel and a drill bit. i did this slowly and test fitted often.

    http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc89/anovasinn/DSC02013.jpg

finished chest plate before paint. notice the red putty to square up edges. as well as the last piece of styrene on the bottom i beveled the outside edges of the bottom strip so it would blend into figure well

chest plate with 1st primer coat to show me my flaws most of this coat will be sanded away. notice my line under neck plate is off kilter slightly i may fix but unsure it is rather minor.

AwEsome. Completely diffrent than the route I am going. But, at least there is a second way that I know will work. Mine will be attached to the chest and fold out to make larger wings.

if you could document your work and make a how to like this. that would be awsome because then radicons would have two choices. your idea sounds like it would be more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. also hopefully this won't be the only one i build so it would be nice for me to have a choice as well. thanks!

We would love to see your take on it too!....as Anovasinn said, please feel free to post a follow along. That is if you don't mind sharing the how to with us.

And Anovasinn, when you're done with your mod, please include finished pics of both Bot and Dino modes, that way people that view your tutorial can get a completed look of the mod at hand.

Looking good so far man...keep it up :thumb

Nice... I haven't been able to find a Grimlock yet so I didn't even know about this gap.

    Great work!

Beautiful work, as I said. Is that your final colour, though? Looks like you could stand to mix in a little black, or possibly dark brown...

well i am thinking about what the over all color is going to be i think i am going to stay away from silver. i also want the painting to be done overall in flats also i am debating on the gold i think i am going to use this dark bronze i made for another project. it is 3 parts boyd black and 2 parts testors standard gold. my prime project i am going to unviel soon has it. on the maroon parts i want to use a rich red for those parts rather than the anime maroon i may go with the color i used on my wip warpath it seems like a good choice.

any suggestions on colors is warmly welcome.

I bet you could get a fair bit of attention if you made castings of that flap. Do the actual flap out of a hard material and then do the side hinge thingies as rubbery "plugs" that would slide into place. I'd seriously consider buying one.

This is excellent... Actually closer to MOST EXCELLENT. Or "MEXCELLENT."

You make me lust for styrene and putty like Conan thirsts for blood.
