Green Lantern: the final 3 actors are...

AICN is reporting that the final three actors in the running for the role of Green Lantern / Hal Jordan are:

    - Bradley Cooper
    - Ryan Reynolds (despite his association with Marvel as Deadpool)
    - Justin Timberlake

Going with Timberlake is just as bad as those early Jack Black rumors. I don't understand how or why Warners is having so much trouble with this. I could do a better job.

Ryan Reynolds would be an awesome Guy. I know he doesn't really look like him, but he could play the character perfect.

Timberlake isn't THAT bad a choice. He was good in Alpha Dog.

I'll say what I said on AICN:

I remember when fans howled in outrage over casting a comedic actor as Batman.

I remember when there were outcries over casting a too-tall song and dance man as Wolverine.

And I remember when everyone bitched and moaned that pretty boy locker pin up was cast as the Joker.

If the director chooses JT, so be it. I'll give him a chance just as I did the others. It could be he sucks in the role (and to be honest, the idea of him as my favorite superhero doesn't work in my mind's eye), however if that's the case, then his casting will be the result of poor judgement by the director, which would be the real reason to be concerned. At worst, JT would be the canary in the coal mine, the first indicator that the director doesn't know what he's doing. At best, he could shock and surprise the skeptical fans, and end up defining the role.

    We shall see.

Keep Reynolds as Deadpool. There's plenty of other talented guys to choose from in this world.

Justin Timberlake is pretty good at the old acting gig, depends on who he is I suppose. I'm fortunate enough not to give a flying one about GL so I guess this works in my favour.

Timberlake is actually a good actor; he's done well in serious roles such as in "Black Snake Moan" and can be silly like in " The Love Guru".

PS- I never heard anyone bitch about Ledger in Batman

People raised hell before they actually saw Ledger in the role of the Joker... and then all was forgiven.

I only know all 3 of those guys for comedy (and Timberlake's music, obviously, but that's not relevant to this discussion), so it's hard for me to imagine any of them as Hal. We'll see what happens though.

Of the three, I'd say Bradley Cooper. Though none of them are stellar choices for the character.

I like Reynolds a lot. Guy, maybe. But I don't see him fitting for Hal. I much prefer the idea of him playing Wally West.

And Timberlake CAN act. I dug him in Southland Tales.

    Good grief, YES.

Meanwhile, I'm not sure what sort of hallucinogens WB is using to make them think a budget of $150-200M for this is a good idea. Superman didn't do well enough to justify its $200M+ budget. And if they're thinking GL can ride Bat coat tails with general audiences, they're deluding themselves.

Then you must have missed it, because it was a firestorm.

I don't know if they could get away with casting JT as GL.

Yeah, a real shame that the rest of the movie was an utter mess. I liked it all the same.

Reynolds and Timberlake just seem to young to be Hal in my opinion. I can see Cooper doing it though.

I actually rather like Timberlake when he isn't doing music, but he's just too young to be Hal.

I also can't see Reynolds in the role, as he's too dynamic of an actor.

Cooper has never really impressed me much, so I think he'd work just fine for boring-ass Hal Jordan. Save the talented and interesting actors for Guy and Kyle.

I guess I will give Timberlake a chance. Don't know the other guy, but I still don't know about Reynolds. Honestly, of the three, Timberlake has my vote.

Given how well some of the past comic book casting choices have turned out, I'll go in with an open mind. The only trouble I see with these choices are age. Maybe a younger Hal (or are they going with a Kyle character?), but not where the character is now.

Total win if this were the case. This man has done no wrong.

    I just cried a little bit. :(

Hmm. If Reynolds gets it, what are the chances of Marvel dropping him for Deadpool?
