I hope this thread doesn't seem like trolling or spam, but Guitar Hero: Green Day is coming out soon and I have one question. Does anyone care? Seriously, I think this horse has run its last lap and I can think of, oh, I don't know, any other band that I would rather play on GH than Green Day.
To answer your question, I am personally finished with the music game genre. It's pretty much run its course. The only way to really revive it is to turn it from a "play this song/band" game into a game with an actual storyline. Make the surrounding bits interesting instead of (barely) retreading a bands history. Neither Activision or EA has any desire to actually move the genre forward in any real way.
I know a lot of people who ate up the first rev of Guitar Hero or Rock Band(!) or whatever and I personally don't know anyone who plans on getting another one. I should probably refrain from posting until I can digest food again.
I still like Rock Band 2, and the DLC library that they have is simply amazing. However, I don't like games that only feature one artist, except for The Beatles: RB (which I brought), and I won't be getting Guitar Hero: Green Day... ...I meant Rock Band: Green Day.
I'll be buying it since I'm a Green Day fan. That means I need a guitar controller though, and I might just wait until the game drops in price. $60 is a steep price for a single band game.
I'm a fan of the band, I have a good portion of their albums, so I'm looking forward to this at least a little. I never really got burned out on the whole music games though, probably due to not playing enough of them.
Meh, could care less about these Band specific games. I like AC/DC but that Rock Band title was just a glorified track pack. I love Metallica, but I hate playing their songs on Rock Band because they're too difficult, long, or both, so no way was I touching the GH game. Aerosmith, meh. Not a Beatles fan in the least, so that Rock Band game didn't interest me at all. I like a couple of Green Day's songs, but a whole GD game doesn't interest me. I'll just keep playing Rock Band 2 now and then until Harmonix finally pulls their heads out of the asses and does Rock Band 3.
To be able to play the album that sparked my being, and then some, yes. I don't quite know if I'll be buying it immediately. I'm thinking it'll hit sale price come black friday, but I really want to play Dookie and American Idiot back to back in full. I love Rock Band 2, am slowly getting back into it, and am very geared for RB3.
I've got it pre-orderred...mostly so I can get the import code for free, then I'll probably give it to my brother in law who's a much bigger GD fan than I am and doesn't have RB2 anyway to import into Music games only really get played in my house when there's a party so I'm not nearly as burned out as most
I'm getting it. I still haven't gotten tired of music games. I'm really only a marginal fan of Green Day, in that I liked them in high school in the early 90's, and have periodically found the occasional thing they've done since then to be impressive. But I'll be exporting the songs, and I'm always up for expanding the library of stuff available for our Rock Band 2 parties, and anyway I had a Gamestop giftcard burning a whole in my pocket that went towards the preorder, so here we are. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement I suppose, but it's where I stand.
