When creating builds from scratch out of styrene sheets or other non-predetailed plastic, what processes do you use to make them more visually interesting, given that real Transformers toys often have a heck of a lot of mold detail?

    Do you -

    - use pregreeblied kit parts or leftover Transformer panels as components or inserts?
    - copy existing Transformer mold detail and mix it up a little?
    - build your own greeblie panels out of whatever's lying around?
    - etch the blank styrene in random techno-artistic patterns?
    - have a set of processes you use to generate appropriate mold detail?
    - leave the styrene blank and smooth, because you like it that way?
    - something completely different?
