That...that's beautiful. I'm not going to have a top 5 or anything, and these aren't who I consider the greatest per se, but perhaps some lesser known guitarists who otherwise might not appear in this thread. I would have given descriptions of why I like them but it's late and I'm not very good at that anyway. Warren Haynes Derek Trucks Jeff Beck John Cipollina Robert Fripp Frank Zappa Les Paul (whom I will be seeing performing tomorrow) Jorma Kaukonen Trey Anastasio Jon Gutwillig Andy McKee Pat Metheny Robert Randolph
*facepalm* I cannot believe I forgot the Godfather of metal. I'll be in my room, ....full of shame,...sobbing in the corner. I don't deserve my flying V guitar,...I should play a telecaster to teach myself a lesson.
It's impossible to pick a "top" anything. I hold many in high standard so consider this the first five I can think of right this instant. Buckethead Pepper Keenan Brendon Small SRV Dave Mustaine
Kind of sucks that he had to loose parts of his body to lay the foundations of some of the greatest music on earth.
Guitar gods...always interesting. I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, or Tom Morello. And John Mayer often doesn't get the credit he deserves for his skill, either.
Brian May Andy Summers Wes Montgomery Django Reinhardt and my personal favorite: Tony Rice!! hard for me to do 5 as well. . .I'm also fond of Kerry King, Leo Nocentelli, Jim Hall, the Edge, etc. etc.
Morello and Clapton would be in my list somewhere. Santana isn't that mind-blowing to me. Mayer is a good player but theres something about him that I just don't like.
For your consideration: Carlos Santana - Maria Maria - he switches between guitars several times in the song. Carlos Santana & Steven Tyler - Just Feel Better John Mayer live guitar solo John Mayer (Grammys 2007 w/ Corrine Bailey Rae and John Legend)
there are simply far too many amazing guitarists on this planet, that are all amazing in different ways, on different levels, to different people.
This thread will probably go on forever Just to name a few not yet mentioned ALEX SKOLNICK JOE PASS MARTY FRIEDMAN BRIAN SETZER and JASON BECKER this boy was going to be a legend sadly fate did not allow this to be. Listen to "Air" from Perpetual Burn. Just beautiful. oh and a few late mentions: JAMES MURPHY J YUENGER both great, both very under rated
Muhammed Suicmez- Necrophagist Ivan Jaramillo -Ancient Necropsy ( one man band) Adam Jones-Tool. Mr. Dave Mustaine. Tom Morello.
i was waiting for Petrucci.... another overlooked guitar player is Roy Clark. Don't let his days on "Hee-Haw" distract you. he was multi-faceted. saw him play flamenco, classical, bluegrass, honkytonk and country- he has such nimble fingers. always been impressed by him.
