Only 5?shit this'll take some thinking to whittle the list down

    1) Dimebag
    2) Hetfield
    3) Paul Gilbert (the only shredder I can tolerate listeneing to, as he has a sense of melody unlike the others)
    4) Kirk Windstein
    5) Michael Amott

This list will probably have changed in the next half hour.

Being a drummer my decision is pretty uninformed, but my Fav's Slash. I like Hetfield and Hammet's riffs. Naturally Hendrix, Angus, Van Halen and several others are fantastic as well.

I won't rank them because everyone has different styles, but my list would include:

    George Lynch
    David Gilmour
    Tommy Bolin
    Roy Buchanon

    Me.

    But my favorites are:

    Dave Mustaine
    SRV
    Paco De Lucia
    James Hetfield
    the guy in TooL
    Dimebag

There's ton of amazing players out there. It's finding the ones who actually write cool music instead of just masturbating with their guitar that's a challenge.

All time favorite though has got to be Dave Mustaine. Writes great songs, plays intricate rhythms while he sings, and he plays leads. Noone else does sh*t like that.

Dave is pretty amazing. The riff from Kick the Chair is the baddest piece of guitar work I've heard in quite some time.

I thought of Randy, but if I listed every cool guitar player it'd be a HUGE list. So I just listed the ones who influenced me personally. But here's more that influenced me. Great players, all of them.

    But:

    Danny Gatton
    Jake E. Lee
    B.B. King
    T. Bone Walker
    Django Reinhardt
    Andres Segovia
    John William
    Al Dimeola
    Paul Gilbert
    Kerry King
    Michael Angelo Batio
    Chris Poland
    Kim Thayill
    Jerry Cantrell
Kurt Cobain (not the greatest player, but he wrote alot of good songs)
    John Fogerty
    Rocky George

that's off the top of my head. There's others

*Kirk Hammet was left out on purpose, lol. Can't have him and Dave on the same page*

Thumbs-up to all those who've named Jimi Hendix, Kerry King, Dimebag Darrell and Dave Mustaine. Although I'm shocked that no-one's mentioned Andy LaRocque or Yngwie Malmsteen...

I'll say Mark Ribot, and John McLaughlin.

I don't like guitarists that just wank off. A good guitarist realizes that some notes should not be played, and the spacing in between those notes makes a better guitar player.
