Interesting how they state that Hasbro is banking on Transformers to actually change Hasbro into more of an entertainment property similar to how Marvel was changed from a comic company to an entertainment entity.

Yup. the very same audience they felt the need to alienate with such odd TF designs, and a GI Joe script that focuses on... Action Man.

Aaaand this is why Spiderman looks like Spiderman, Silver Surfer looks like Silver Surfer, conversely, this is why Starscream looks like a kite with chicken legs, and Megatron looks like a pile of glass shards held together with Elmer's glue. :(

Bingo. That's exactly why we got what we got.

However, I doubt this movie will do badly. There is just too much hype behind it and there are a lot of people looking forward to seeing it. Although I'm not happy with many of things they've done with the movie, from what I've been reading from people who have seen it, they've thrown enough stuff in the movie to appeal to the hardcore fans. I myself have been telling as many people as I can to go see it, because I think there this will be one hell of a robot action fest, even though
I hate what they look like.

Besides, I definitely want this movie to do well so we can get sequels, and hopefully they can find a good balance between the new and the old.

I don't doubt it will be, and indeed I hope it is. I will be there opening night myself, and I am still very excited to see it. That much hasn't changed.

But one cannot deny the fact that iconic character designs were unnecessarily revised, because creative control was relinquished to individuals who aren't at all familiar with the expectations behind the characters.

They should get Tim Curry to reprise his board-game acting career as the top hat-wearing millionaire in a Monopoly movie.

    Yeah, I can deny it.
Every time I read this it makes me cringe. In your opinion they were unnecessarily changed. In my opinion, the changes were not only necessary, but welcomed. The changes brought the characters into the 21st Century in a big way. The movie just wouldn't have the same mass appeal if they looked like big blocky toys in the real world. I have people all over the place see me wearing a TF shirt and they always comment on it and the movie. Non fans say they look real and they are excited to see the movie. Before the movie was ever heard about the only comments my clothing ever got was from geeks like myself that recognized it. Whether or not any of this is a good thing remains to be seen but it stands a good chance Hasbro made a very good decision in regards to creative control.

Well, I can deny they were unnecessarily revised. IMO it was very necessary. I think Hasbro was very smart to put the success or failure of this motion picture into the hands of people that know how to make good movies.
