And once again, 'Weird Al' Yankovic has been passed over. Not even a nom in the comedy category. Certainly not in best solo rap performance, male artist, or album of the year. This reeks of conspiracy.

Edit: I'm dumb. Hooked on Fonix owes me some cash.

that's not right, so far straight outta lynwood is his best album yet, as far as sales goes. and "white and nerdy" is his biggest hit ever
if i'm not mistaken, "white and nerdy" reached #10 on billboard and his biggest hit b4 that was "eat it!" which only got to #30 on billboard
    he soo diserves one

    EDIT: yes he was,

Without even seeing the nominations, I can bet that Nickelback's somewhere in there.

    Am I right?

A quick scan of the list with Google Toolbar didn't find them.

Which is odd, considering the huge amount of success their album has had.

On a sidenote, I'm glad to see "Lonely Day" by System of a Down nominated for best Rock performance.

    From the Grammy website.

Congrats to Weird Al but Lewis Black and George Carlin are tough competition.

I must be way out of the loop. I've never even heard of this Corinne Bailey Rae person. Is she country, because that would explain why.

I'm debating using the Google smiley on MegaMoonMan.

He's a good poster, usually agrees with me, and can be funny.

    No, not this time.

    She's more R&Bish, from what I found.

Fine, I googled. Not country, but not something I'd ever listen to either. Sounds like something they would play on a "contemporary urban adult" station or something.

I have the samples on her website playing through. They're actually nice and relaxing, and I've heard a few before.

Meh. I care about the Grammys significantly less than the Oscars. And I don't give a shit about the Oscars.

    I found this interesting:
As for Weird Al - the really odd thing is that when the album came out, I couldn't find it anywhere. Well, at least anywhere that wasn't a specialty store, but I avoid those like the plague since they overcharge so badly. Not at Wallyworld, not at K-Mart, not at Target...guess I'll have to put it on my Amazon wishlist.

But yeah, the Grammys aren't all that great. I mean, they passed over Sgt. Pepper, gave best new artist to Norah Jones instead of 50 Cent, continually have passed over Eminem, etc.

Sounds like they actually got that one right. Jones can, like, play an instrument and like, sing. Fiddy can do neither.

Andy Russo was nominated. I'm a work study at the Performing Arts Center up here at le moyne and he's part of the staff there. Pretty cool guy. He was in a short movie we made where he told me I wouldn't amount to anything which was a running gag throughout the movie.

They're completely different forms of music - not really a fair comparison, IMO. If you want to compare a pop singer (like American Idol winners) to Norah Jones, then I agree - being able to write your own music and play musical instruments makes her superior. But hip-hop is another cake of soap entirely.

But I'm of the opinion that she got the nod for the wrong reasons (a nod to her dad, a dislike for hip-hop among much of the music community, a hope that a nod to her would help her albums sell since they wouldn't do all that well otherwise) and not because she was genuinely the best new artist of that year.
