I seem to be on a roll at the moment (although the roll has certainly finished) - I found a Star Saber on ebay UK with a BIN of £20 (that's about $30 / $40 US I think). I had a quick look at the pictures, seems he was missing the blade, his gun and one of his red shoulder flaps. I pondered over it for a few minutes and thought "what the hell," it seemed like a bit of a bargain. Well he arrived today and he's pretty nifty. Looks nice and large and I'm a big fan of the brainmasters. Anyway, check out the auction: here. Good deal? Worth looking at finding Victory Leo now?

The picture is prettty bad on the auction, but I say it's a pretty good deal. To be honest I dont know if I would have gone for it as I have no idea how easy or difficult it is to aquire his missing accessories, but that's just me. Oh and regardless if you have a Star Saber, I definitely say get a Victory Leo. Nice score on a figure that's on my eventual list! :)

Yes. Victory Saber does look a little dated, but scores major points based on size.

The stickers on that Star Saber look pretty rough, but repolables do replacement stickers for Star Saber and Victory Leo.

Scoring replacement parts for Star Saber will be a bit on the tricky side, but not impossible - there is a knock off out there which iirc is comparative.

Things to look for when searching for Victory Leo are missing missles, and sticker wear - the stickers wear worse than on Star Saber.

I've been looking for the blade for some time now. The last one on ebay sold for like $30.00 alone. I think you got a good deal but that red flap is going to be hard to find. If I find a junker one I will let you know.

Thanks for the heads up on any red flaps! It was kind of an impulse buy and I wasn't too sure, but now he's here he is pretty large and impressive. Sticker's aren't too great but that's what reprolabels are for I guess. He needs a bit of a clean too, so one day I might clean him up good and redo stickers. I've noticed now that there seems to be a little bit of damage in the inside of his legs were his feet fold up into, but overall it seems pretty good. One good thing is that he's not that yellow yet, still fairly white. Certainly a lot nicer than my special "urine edition" Jetfire.

The Reprolabels set for Star Saber is VERY good:

As you can see (saved me having to apply the originals ;) ). I need to get a Victory Leo too; he's on next year's Botcon dealer room list ATM.

Draven that Star Saber is so freaking white and hot that it makes my eyes burn with envy. Very very nice.

I was just looking around on tfu.info and noticed this picture (I've rehosted and posted):

Notice the landing gear is yellow and so is the button on the nosecone and also the bits that join the nosecone / blade handle to the rest of the jet. On my Star Saber all these parts are chrome. What up with that?

Yep, Autobot stickers on both the wings of the red jet and also the blue wings on Star Saber's legs.

Sweet, thanks for the pics. That really is one nice Star Saber! It looks like the chrome bits on the nosecone is the only difference on mine - all the other bits that should be yellow are yellow etc. Does the K.O. have the chrome? I guess it's possible that my nosecone is from the K.O. but the rest is original?

Also, I just noticed in those pics that his sword blade stores away in the blue thing on his back. That's fantastic.

Hmm, maybe the nosecone is? It has all the applied stickers of the original and it's got the (c) Takara 89 stamp. The plastic feels like the right quality for that era. If it's a bootleg then it's a very very good one. It's strange though because all the other "yellow" parts on the red jet (i.e. the button, parts of the arm etc) are there, just the removable nosecone has the chrome.

Are the ear pieces chrome along with the small jets engines?

Nope, the ear pieces and the jet engines are a dark grey / black. The only chrome bits on the entire toy are the parts on that front nosecone / sword handle.
