I got my driver's permit yesterday! my mom bought me Ani. Blitzwing and i got some better acrylic paints from Michaels that only cost 50 cents each! They are pretty good, they dry fast and look clean. I'll post a new repaint on the weekend when i'm done.

Congrats on the permit! I'm anxious to see you revisit your older projects as well as what you do in the future. When I'm at Michael's, I typically load up on sandpapers that Testors makes with the usual coupon that comes in their circular ad each week. On occasion, I'll get some new artist brushes, but I don't buy brushes much since I try to take care of the ones I use. The 40% coupon is great :thumb

    Again, congrats! :)

Thanks superquad7! the new paint is actually smoother and fast drying. I also got some different sized brushes to use. The transformers i'm repainting are Arcee, Speedbump, Cliffjumper, Scattershot (the white paint cam be put on smoothly!) and a couple others.

P.S. my first driving date is oct.24

congrats, but return those 50 cent paints, they can't be good. I'm sure you being a new driver and all, wouldn't mind the extra long drive to a hobby shop which will have better paints.

I'd mostly agree here. I say that only to say that I've been able to make those craft-type paints work. That's only after mixing them together with a binder such as Testors clear acrylic or Future floor polish.

I personally recommend model paints (Testors enamels or acrylics) for persons starting out with painting custom Transformers. The reason for this is that they are mixed especially for the plastics models (and toys) are made of.

The better paints are available everywhere, just do a search for "hobby shops" on google for your area.

Having recently left San Diego (and my hobby shop of choice there) I had to find a new one here. 2nd place I called has the full line of the paints I need. It's a bit further, but well worth 15 minutes of extra driving when I consider the aftermath of cheap paints.
