So just had my first dental checkup after 3 years and i find out that i have 3 or 4 cavities and 3 have to be treated with fill-ins and one apparently is a root canal therapy(no idea what it is). This is just great.

should have layed off the junk food while i could!

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm terrified of getting them, but I still haven't had any cavities at all. It probably helps that for the last four or so years, I've been super OCD about brushing my teeth (these days, I generally take about 15-20 minutes for the whole process, and there was a period when I had braces when I would take over an hour), but when I was younger, I used to barely do it at all.

A root canal is when they drill into the core of your tooth to remove diseased, decayed, and infected tooth pulp. Have fun!

The fun part about a root canal is that they get rid of the living part of your tooth, and fill it in whatever material they use, so there's no longer a living root, and the tooth eventually falls out, anyway. Unless, it's at the front of your mouth, I'd just have them pull it.

Root canal is a long arduous process, but at least you get to retain the tooth.

We all go through not visiting the dentist sometimes.

A root canal is the thing of the past, talk to your dentist about getting a post instead.

That's what I have and its not that painful.

Ugh. I went to the dentist a few months ago for a painful cavity and they found eleven or so. Instead of patching them up, they dremeled around the base of all those teeth and remolded them.

Of course, they didn't have the courtesy to tell me what the procedure actually was, so when I got up for a piss break I couldn't stop trembling after seeing my teeth mid-procedure.

I make it a point to brush and gargle right before bed. I only used to brush before I occasionally left the house. Yes, it was that traumatic.

I can post a pic of what I saw...

^ no need. Anyways, I'm not as apprehensive of it as i was yesterday. If i go through it, they'll at least give me a shot to not feel a thing. Of course, i'll have to bring an mp3 player and keep my eyes closed and relax cause there might be some blood.

He may not have dental insurance. I'm not even sure if I'm still covered by the plan I was on, and I know my dad doesn't get it with his job.
