I got a used Sega Saturn tonight for $30. No games with it, only good title they had was Shining Wisdom at $60. But it's a model 1 oval button Saturn. SWAP TRICK!

I found an eBay seller(signed up a new account last night) who lives 45 minutes away with that game who wants half that price, I'll see if he'll do a local pickup despite his insistence on Paypal/immediate payment. Otherwise I might import Castlevania SOTN(okay, so I still think the swap trick is risky, and the collector part of me still runs deep).

I can get a Dreamcast used for $30. Plus the store finally had a good selection in. Sold my last DC as I couldn't find much for good games for it locally. Then a week later...

Saturn Bomberman is the best fucking Bomberman game made. It's got a 10 player mode with a battlefield so damn big that it screams for a large HDTV and bunch people.

worms. that was my game on the saturn. unfortunately, aside from the panzer games and nights (never got into guardian heroes) there's not really any other games that are on it that are still playable/have graphics that have withstood the test of time, that aren't available on other systems, IMO.

sega rally, daytona, virtua cop and virtua fighter were amazing back then, but they're just too blocky to look at now. I guess 2D is where it's really at if you want to find some good games. astal and dragon force come to mind as sega-only games that are good on there.

Mod that bitch before you wear out the drive. You can frequently get by installing the chip without any solder. As for games...

    Bulk Slash
    Burning Rangers
    Dark Savior
    Die Hard Arcade
    Guardian Heroes
    HyperDuel
    Magic Knight RAYEARTH
MegaMan 8 (this is how the game was meant, yet this version was never ported)
    NiGHTS: Into Dreams
Panzer Dragoon I, II, and Saga
    Radiant Silvergun
    Saturn Bomberman
    ShienRyu
    Shining Force III (scenario 1)
Sonic Jam (for the enhanced port of Sonic The Hedgehog 1)
Street Fighter Zero 3 (best version, but you'll need a 4MB RAM expansion card)
    Strikers 1945 series
    Virtual-On
    Waku Waku 7
X-Men Vs Street Fighter (best console version, need 4 MB RAM card). Also applies to Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter.

All of these are excellent games that to the best of my knowledge are either exclusive to the Saturn, or are still currently the best console versions that exist (and by a wide margin), and do not require knowledge of the Japanese language to play. Yes, I love my Saturn to death. Enjoy!

I'll sell you my pristine copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for 1 Billion dollars.
Also, if you can hunt down the import to the Dungeons and Dragons Acrade (both games in one disk) get that. It's a great 2-player game, and one of the deepest arcade game of its type in terms of leveling, using spells, and buying stuff doe your character. Hell there is even a healer that heals your friends.

Also, Saturn modchips still do exist. There's a certain site on the internet that also has every game ever made (US, Japanese) in .iso format. If interested, let me know via PM.

I gots one that I might part with. I actually still use it since you can connect it to the TV and connect a controller to it, so it's like a second genesis.

Shining the Holy Ark, damn I totally forgot about that game. Good times. I really miss Sega's time. And I would love nothing more than to play a new True sequel to Phantasy Star.

I think it's my second favourite fighter after Capcom vs SNK.
